running a 1600+ oc'ed, won a 2200+...sell or keep?

I'm running a very nice 1600+ AROIA and it overclocks wonderfully. So I then go to the AMD giveaways and win myself a nice 2200+. I'm happy that I won it (was expecting a 2400+ and AMD let me down in that way...oh well).

I'm more interested in getting the 2400+ because it supposively oc's better than the 2200+. I don't mind shelling out a few more bucks for the 2400+...or I could sell the 2200+ now and buy the 2400+ when it lowers in price...or I could run the 2200+ and be happy with my win...or I could sell the 2200+ and just keep the money. So many decisions, so little idea. Suggestions?!

Sell high, buy low 🙂

Seriously though, if you have your heart set on the 2400+ (Rev. B), you should sell that 2200+ now while it still has some value. Those 2200+ are supposed to clock to around 2ghz as well, but results aren't as widespread as the lower XP's. Seems like most people running 2200+ XPs aren't that interested in OCing, they just want the stock mhz. Once the 2400+ is more widely available and the 2600+ and above parts hit the mainstream, the 2400+ will decrease in price and really push the 2200+ down in value, so it'll be hard to get any value out of it then. Plus, you're OC'd 1600+ seems to be doing just fine.

I agree, sell both and buy the 2400+ - it's a good price / good speed and good value so it should last a while making it work effectively with your $

If it were me, I'd TRY the 2200+ to see how it O/Cs (you could have a gem or a dog) and make a decision based on the results.

If you have an outstanding CPU (it could O/C as well as the 2400+s) - keep it; if not, sell (both and get your 2400+). 😉

EDIT: Before I get totally flamed and charbroiled . . . I'd better add that the 2200 is not likely to O/C anyway near as well as a 2400+. But I'd still TRY it - you never know you may be happy with the results (and free is free). You can also buy that 2400 and get a total dog. 😉

No,

There's no 2200+ Throroughbred B's out yet, only Thoroughbred A's - plus it has a lower multiplier, therefore we know for a fact that this CPU will overclock worse than a 2400.

See, this is my impression from reading up on the 2400+s. I figure they are sorta the next generation 1600+s because they overclock very well like the 1600, and I can probably buy myself a nice B that'll be even better. I don't know if I'd sell my 1600+ until I got a 2400+ and liked my results. I think I'm more convinced to sell the 2200+ after reading everyone's suggestions. Keep discussing!

If he tries it out, lowers its sale value..especially to system builders who don't plan on overclocking. Also, it sounds better if you can (honestly) say the chip has never been used nor overclocked. If you say you tried to OC but decided not to keep it, OCers will be turned off b/c they'll think its a dog. Those who aren't OCers will think the chip has been tainted (especially if you end up selling on EBay). No need to sell your 1600+ yet. Sell the 2200+, get the 2400+ and pay the difference. If you like your results, sell the 1600+ and you will probably break close to even. Its like trading in a '90 and '95 Car for a brand spankin new '03 model.
