Running 667Mhz and 800Mhz DDR2 ram on Intel DG965Ry mother board

Hi,

This is my first thread on AnandTech.

I have DG965RY mobo with 1GB DDR2 667 Mhz ram, now i want to upgrade my ram, so was thinking of adding another 2GB

Can I run 800MHz ram with my current 667Mhz ram. The vendor told me "Your pc might slow down coz of frequency miss match"

Thanks and Advance

Cheers,
Siddhesh

Generally, mixing RAM should work, in theory, but it will run at whatever speed is in the first bank of memory, or otherwise, it will run at the slowest speed, via SPD.

So either way, it will likely run at 667. I'm not familiar with that board in particular, but going by the code numbers, it seems like a 965 board, so it should have memory ratios that you can set in the BIOS.

So yes, it should work. Make sure that the voltage and timings match too, though. If they don't, you might have more problems.
