so my mobo keeps beeping, but i dont know why, it couldnt be heat, cause my asus probe is telling me im running at 40c, not the best, but no need for alarm. so i reboot, looking around in my bios, go to hardware whatever, and my bios is telling me im running 50c. alarm. but im not overclocking, not running prime95 for 5 days straight while playing games, and its not hot outside, so why am i running so damn hot?!

Set your alarm higher or just turn it off cause 50 C is not too hot for a current processor.
My processor has been running over 50 lately though cause it's been pretty hot here,
but I'm not sure why yours is higher than normal if the weather isn't hot.

Well I have a p4 2.5Ghz and at idle it runs at 35-37c. Load it runs at 40-45c. I have the ventec aeroflow as well. I would say if yours is 50c at idle there is something wrong. Maybe reseat your heatsink and use arctic silver 3. Thats the thermal compound I prefer. You will have to let it cure for about 50 hours I heard to see the difference between that and the other thermal compounds that are out there. Plus you still have not told me what you have for case fans, cooling etc.. Better yet what is your sys specs.

xp 2600+; a7n8x; 512 crucial 2700; sparkle 350w psu; gf3 ti500 (its gone, i artifact and my 9500p is in the mail) thermaltake xaser III (4 intake 3 outtake, rated ?23cfm? each) last year or so, i wouldnt break 45 after mass gaming, i dont even think i broke 40.

Do you observe other probes? Like CPU FAN or Voltage.

Sometimes these factor will cause a alarm.

Well how hot outside does it get? I know I had a all thick metal case and whenever it got hot so did my mobo and I also heard it beep. Then I went to the Lian-Li PC-75 and everything is all good now. Plus with four case fans it keeps it nice and cool inside plus I have room for two more. Maybe think about getting more powerful case fans? Maybe somebody can shed more light on your little problem and come up with something better.

Pop out that CPU, clean out the HSF. Throw on some new Artic Silver.

My cpu voltage is at the lowest possible, 1.65 and my cpu fan is running top speed

its not hot at all, actualy its supposed to get really cold tonight, like 45f

will do tomorow, i was thinking of lapping it too, know how much lapping materials cost?

Im not an expert in the lapping field but, i thought you could use some fine grit sandpaper (moist) and just rub it down...

Not sure..

I checked the datasheets here (at amd.com), and they advise motherboard manufacturers that the "Thermal diode shutdown temperature for processor protection" is 125°C. I'd never ever want to be around a CPU that got that hot, but I think you're OK with 50°C.

keep in mind that max temps are only good for non-overclocked applications.

I have a tualatin 1.4-S, I run it at 1.5/and 0.1 V higher....however with a 26CFM quiet fan, it hits 45C-49C and will dump to desktop in games. However with my Sanyo Denki 37CFM at 9dB higher (29dB) runs at 40C-43C and never dumps.

Intel says the CPU is good to 69C.

If your BIOS is showing 50C you're running well within' specs. Even cool compared to my 2400+(A7N8X-deluxe). Mine runs at 55C in the BIOS.
BIOS temps are higher because the computer is running full-on compared to windows which idles the CPU...so something like MBM reads my diode at 48-49 C.

I wouldn't worry about it at all and just up your alarm temp to say 65C.

As for P4s. Well it's a known fact that Intel placed their temp diode in the coolest part of the die. Don't know if AMD did the same. Anyway it's really fruitless to compare die temps between different chips and different motherboards. Asus boards for example have a reputation of showing higher temps than some other motherboards.
Comparing different chips is even more meaningless.
On top of that their is probably variation in the sensing diodes.

I can believe they placed it at the coolest part, but when you think of the size of the die and size of the diode....:) :) :)

dies are getting so small it's scary.

Soon the head of a pin will run at 10GHz all day with passive cooling :)

does your mobo have an alarm, because the whole problem is that i think there is an alarm for over 50c and its the most annoying thing ive ever heard. ive looked threw the bios and i didnt see a way to turn it off, so am i blind/dumb for the beeping coming from something else, or is there no way to turn it off.

yes, the mobo has an alarm. I recall that it's set to shutdown when the CPU reaches 70C or 90C. Some how yours is set to 50C. Since I'm not on my 2400+/Asus computer right now I can't look and tell you how to do it.
I suggest you read the manual or contact Asus support in the meantime. OTOH, are you sure it's the temperature alarm is what is beeping? I recall the overheating failsafe on the mobo just shuts the computer down if it overheats. Maybe if you call Asus tech and let them listen to the beep they can help you. BTW, is there a sequence to the beeps as and long and short beeps?

Check the monitoring software(assuming you're using some) for alarm settings. Many monitors have alarms for cpu/mobo temps, fan speeds, and even voltages. I laugh at 50c and so have all the Athlons I've ever owned. :)

My new Asus A7N8X / XP 2500+ (non-OC'd) was shutting down on me during 3DMark2001. AsusProbe was showing 42C. Finally, I looked in the BIOS and discoved it was running at 60C / 141F. I could play Medal of Honor for hours, but the benchmark put it over the edge.

No warnings, it just shuts down. Anyway, I was using a Thermalright SK6 HSF which I thought would be better than the little aluminum one that came with the CPU. I don't know why it didn't work very well (unless it wasn't a tight enough seal--I thought I was going to crush the CPU when I put the AMD HSF on!) but when I put the AMD HSF on, it went down to 37-39C.
