Running 2 PSU's on one system ?

I know I've seen it down before but I can't remember how they did it. I'm getting my 6800U tomorrow and I know my 400w wont cut it so I wanna use a spare 300w to power the card until I order a new PSU.

 
Isnt there one main wire that turns the PSU on and off ? If so, couldnt I just tap that on to my mail PSU ?
 
Well, actually there is only one way that you can turn the power supply on without hooking it up to the motherboard. This is by connecting two of the pins on the 20-pin connector together. If you are willing to do that, be my guest. I can tell you which pins to connect together if you want.

acutally, if your 400W is quality, it will work without problem.

I got a buddy with a Dual Athlon MP2400+ and a 6800GT, among numerous other things, running on an Antec 400W. zero problem.
 
400 shoudl be enought to run it. If not, be sure that you ground the second PSU to your case to make sure you don't have any funny ground loops between the two PSU's. You can definetly fry stuff if you're not careful. You might want to run your hard drives or optical drives off the second psu and the vid card off the main one so nothing pulls power from both PSU's at the same time.
 
Before you do this ask yourself a question: Do I really want to risk frying my nice new 6800 Ultra on a rigged up dual PSU system, or do I want to play it safe and invest $100 or so in a nice Antec TruePower 550? If I were you and I had that much invested in a video card, I wouldn't risk it.

A quality single PSU would more than likely be your safest bet, Not to mention probaly being a little easier on the electric bill than having two PSU's running at the same time.

Antec 550? You might even be able to run that on a sub 400 Antec. Sure those things "require" huge PSUs, but that is them playing it safe by taking the biggest peices of crap they can find, and seeing what the minimum it'll take.
