Running 1920x1200 with 8800GTS 320mb?

I just purchased a new system with an LG L246WP-BN and 8800GTS. I'm not into hardcore gaming, but will my system be able to handle recent games (Bioshock, Oblivion, FEAR, STALKER, maybe Crysis) at my monitor's native resolution with nice settlings and smooth frame-rates? The rest of my specs are GA-P35C-DS3R, Q6600, 4GB DDR2-800, and Vista x64. I decided on getting the GTS now and I'll probably upgrade to something newer and better once the new line of GPU's arrive. Also, does anyone have a link to benchmarks between the two versions of the GTS? I know of the VGA charts on tomshardware but they are rather limited. Thanks!

Yes but you may have to lower details to medium at least in some games. Won't be able to use AA or AF in some games as well.

1. STALKER
LINK - no AA
There is no benefit from 640mb. But both cards are too slow to run the game at 1920x1200.

2. Bioshock
LINK 1 - no AA
There is no benefit from 640mb.
LINK 2 - with 4AA
Significant benefit (almost 80% performance increase) for 640mb version. But both are too slow.

3. Oblivion

LINK - 4AA
640mb card is 63% faster

4. FEAR

LINK - 4AA
640mb card is 40% faster.

I'd wager in Crysis the performance difference will be the greatest, although I doubt any GTS card will be capable of running it at 4AA 1920x1200 regardless of video memory.

Thanks a lot! I'm very pleasantly surprised by how well Bioshock runs, but would there be less of a gap between the 320 and 640mb versions if I simply turned the AA off on games such as Oblivion and FEAR?

I think you just wanted to show off your new computer setup.

And just as an example I have an Athlon xp 2600 and a Geforce 6800, I can play most modern games at 1920x1080, and if not at least at 1280x768. Now Bioshock, that's a whole different story.

Most modern games? Well, some at least. But OP asked about:

Bioshock, Oblivion, FEAR, STALKER, maybe Crysis

I have a strong feeling that Crysis is going to whip the 8800GTS's little hiney mercilessly. If you want it to look like it does in all those demo videos coming out - with all those nice shadows and everything - and at a decent resolution (1600x1200 or so) then not even the 8800GTX will be enough. Not even close.

The other games should run well with an 8800GTS, save Oblivion. No card can really run that game well at higher resolutions. Even the 8800GTX with everything turned on at around 1600x1200 or so is like 60fps, which is just barely enough, because what people often forget is that when you get into a fight or have lots of enemies on the screen, that once-acceptable 60fps becomes like 20-30, and that's when fps really matters. If you want a card that can provide you with a SUSTAINED 60fps in just about every game currently out at a high resolution, I recommend you wait for a few months when, hopefully, Nvidia will release a higher-end part (for cheaper, god willing).

You could go SLI as well if you don't want to wait or get the highest clocked Geforce 8800 Ultra. Then overclock it even more!

There is nothing to show off about. It's not like he has a dual 8800GTX Ultra setup with dual 30 inch screens. It's a legitimate question. Also, there is no way your setup will run any of these games with full settings at 1920x1080:

Far Cry (with HDR)
FEAR
Oblivion
Bioshock
Rainbow 6: Vegas
STALKER
Company of Heroes
Doom 3
Call of Duty 2 (DX9 mode)
Gothic 3
HL2: Lost Coast (with HDR)
Call of Juarez
Lost Planet
Tomb Raider: Legend

So I am not sure what "modern" games you were talking about. Some of these games require 8800GTX to play at such a resolution with 4AA enabled.

Seriously. Not all but most of those games spank my X2 4400+ and 7800GTX at 1920x1080.

Okay, so I got part of the shipment for my computer today and I found out the 8800GTS was the Superclocked version...if that will make any difference. -_- Anyways, I won't be even be able to run Doom 3 or less modern games with 40+fps on high-ultra with low AA (or no AA)? I find it hard to believe that games like Doom 3, HL2, FEAR, and Bioshock won't be playable at these settings. From what I've seen from benchmarks, Bioshock runs very well at 1920x1200 with 8800GTS 320mb on high settings (no AA).
