Runners: need your advice

I want to participate in 5k race within a couple of months. I suck at running, as a matter of fact I just started this week. I'm in a good shape overall, however, not cardiovascularly (is that event a word?)

Anyways, I ran 2 miles in 17 minutes but I was dead after that. My goal is to run 5k (or 3 miles) in under 21 minutes. Is that possible? What kinda training schedule should I follow?

I started out running 1 1/2 miles. Did that for a couple of weeks, improving my times. When I got to around 9 min., I increased my distance a half mile, then kept adding up to 3 miles. Once I could do the distance at a resonable time, I just added more distance and tried to drop the overall time. When I ran my last 5k, it was around 22 min. Like you, I wasn't a runner, but since they started a new fitness program and made a running a madatory aprt of it, I decided to go with it all out. I just work at a particular distance until I am satisfied with the time, them I build from there.
