The only power a number has is the power you give it. She should wear it proudly to prove that it has no power over her.

Just try teaching math to freshmen and sophomores in high school (and I presume, 8th and maybe 7th graders). Every time the answer is 69, or someone gets a grade of 69, it's Beavis & Butthead, "huh huh huh huh, 69, huh huh huh huh." I can take a classroom of really smart kids and merely by writing "if f(x) = 2x² + 5x - 6, find f(5)", can reduce the majority of the class into a bunch of chuckling buffoons.

When in HS my team got new jerseys. I was sure to grab the bag from my coach first, and pulled out #69 before anyone else could snag it.

I was so fucking legit.

666 is symbolic of falling off the mark, not making the grade, imperfection. The #6 is stated 3 times for emphasis.

It's a symbolic # and, no, the so-called Anti-Christ won't be wearing 666 on his forehead.

Or it's 616, depends on the source.

Regardless, numbers do not contain magical properties.

Then how will we identify him? By his US Postal Service jersey? :p

I don't know what's worse, that somebody thought this was newsworthy or that the op thought it was post worthy.

Although I've never encountered a hotel without a 13th floor I assume this is true, but that would be more for business purposes, wouldn't it?
-snip-

Funny, I can't recall ever seeing a 13th floor. They're pretty rare, and recent, from what I can find.

Yeah, it's for business purposes (in a way). Builders/landlords/hotels concerned they can't be sold/rented.

You're right. 85% of buildings don't have a 13th floor. There aren't many tall buildings where I live. I rarely go that high.

What if they gave out randomly generated symbols instead and you got one with a giant swastika. I bet you wouldn't want to wear it either.

You people are such damn hypocrites here. Or I don't know you're such bigots maybe you would wear it.

Most of the time in buildings like the one being discussed, the 13th floor is therefore reserved for infrastructure -an entire floor dedicated to HVAC, etc., and are only accessible from freight or maintenance elevators.

Pretty convenient use of space, really.

For a while, different random purchases I made, would add up to $6.66, in a 3 month period it happened about 15-20 times... was pretty funny.

I can't help but wonder if these things are sensitive to the numeric base being used.

What if she were assigned 5131? (666, in base 5.) Still evil?
How about 10? (666, in base 666.)
Is it the thought that counts?
Can I spell it out and be ok?
If I put a little pause after the first 6, and then say the rest, will the demons stay put? Will Beetlejuice get a jingle?

666 is the mark of the beast, but TBH it would not really bother me that much. It's not like having that number is the same as accepting the mark during tribulation. If your faith is proper you wont be here for the tribulation anyway.
I just hope they stamp the number on me in a really nice font during the rintintinnabulation.

My luck, I'll end up with Papyrus. *shudder* I guess a master of evil would do something like that. Or one of the numbers would be slightly misaligned, and I'd have no way of straightening it. His cruelty knows no bounds.

Everyone here talking so tough about it, would YOU wear that number, while licking a post-race crack?

Didn't THINK so.

I've written code that randomly generates URLs (e.g. site.com/u3C9), which is really simple problem. I then had to spend 10x more effort writing code to ensure the URLs never contained any vulgarity (e.g. site.com/a55 or site.com/p3n15). Basically had to convert the numbers into all possible letters they could represent and then check against an international list of vulgar words.
