Runescape won't run because of java memory error

I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling Java about 10 times now, trying to delete anything I could find that had to do with Java but this still keeps coming up. Runescape will load everything just fine (I can't find the files to delete so it will redownload all the files) but when it gets into the game it has the whole panel there and says "Loading... please wait..." on a black screen and if minimized and reopened the whole box is white. And in the Java console there is an error that says:

java.lang.OutOfMemoryError

I can't find any solution for this on the internet, only solutions for Java developers. Someone help :(

You can change the java settings before/same stage of picking quality, IIRC.. try messing with that

I'm not familar with Runescape or how the program is started, but generally when you're starting a Java program you can specify an increase in the VM size. Using the -XmsZZZm flag, you can set the initial heap size to ZZZ mb. The -XmxZZZm flag sets the maximum heap size to ZZZ mb. Since the machine in your sig has 2 GB of memory, you shouldn't have any problem devoting 256 or even 512 to the Java VM.

For all of you bashing Runescape, grow up. As far as changing the java settings when you pick quality, I've tried all of the options with no success. And as far as not having enough RAM, please check my sig and tell me that again.

And diego, Runescape is just a java applet on a HTML page, so how would I go about setting flags for that? I'm not super familiar with Java commands, as I never had problems with any program before this.

As far as Edge of Chaos... "Players online: 9. Pilots signed up: 986."

Doesn't sound too eventful.

Wow, I just turned up my memory with a small program from a website. It turned it up to 200mb, then I used a small program on the site to find out how much memory java can allocate... only 59 mb. I ran the test program on my gateway with 320mb of ram, and it came up with 88mb without turning up the memory. I ran the program to turn it up to 200mb, and it just came up with 184mb. Something is broken somewhere.

In your control panel, you should find a Java control panel applet. If you've got the latest plug-in (1.5.x), you can add custom runtime parameters for applets under the Java tab (View button for Java Applet Runtime Settings). The parameters that Diego mentioned can go there.

Well, that program I downloaded did that for me basically. But for some reason, out of the 200mb I allocated its only finding 59mb. On my other computer which is like 3000x worse, I also allocated 200mb and it found 188mb. Somethings not allowing Java to find all the memory I have allocated to it.
