I think we might be seeing the first crop of JMicron-based MLC SSDs that DON'T have the previous latency issues:

Runcore 1.8" SSD

4k random write:
total I/Os per sec: 469.4 (4X more than Samsung SLC, almost half of Intel's)
total MBs per sec: 1.89 (4X that of Samsung SLC, still lags far behind Intel)
average I/O responce time: 2.15 (4X quicker than Samsung SLC)
max I/O responce time: from 24 ( short test ) to 1060.5 ( longer test period )
Test was done on HP Mini 1000, XP, on C drive.
..and yes, it has JMicron's chip inside.

Considering the rock bottom prices of these drives, we might have a
game changer.

I wonder if they are the same as the titan... which has a third controller that does hardware raid between the two jmicron controller. The reason the stutter is gone is probably because of the cache on the new main controller.

I asked the reviewer if he could find two JMF602 chips and he said there was only one.

But is it possible that the Runcore added additional cache somewhere else on the board to supplement the lack of cache on the JFM602?

I was thinking that it could bring new life to the current slew of netbooks and UMPCs that can only fit 1.8" HDDs. Many of those use the PATA interface as well.

Woot!

Yeah, I'd be psyched if these ran on JMicron JMF602B chips. That would be amazing. I don't really need Intel speeds, but I'd like a good balance between speed, capacity, and of course the 1.8" form factor and PATA ZIF interface.

As for the tests, just go for the Anandtech tests, both real world multitasking and benchmarks.

How long ago did you order your Runcore? I'm thinking about doing a preorder but I'm not sure if I'll be able to get in line for the ones coming mid-February.
 
I preordered mine on January 5, and that's when I thought it was still shipping during the first week of January, oh well, at least it's coming soon.

Yeah, the Rev B chip is exciting news!
 
Gah, I just realized that it might not be so easy to visually identify the Revision B chips:

You'll note that both Rev. A and B have a B on the chip. Rev. B chips look like they don't have a "JMF602B" solidly written on them.
 
Someone at notebookreview forums got one and couldn't even install windows due to the laggy response time.
I think other SSDs previously used the JM602B (maybe even the OCZ Core v2?) and they sucked too.
