During working hours my wife lets MS Fax receive all her faxes. Because she is Limited User, she cannot delete faxes.

I've got her starting the software when she needs to using the "Run As...." command to delete old faxes, but I want the program to start and run with Admin rights to negate the hassle of doing this.

I have gotten a few other programs to run with admin rights by clicking their folders and setting permissions, but MS Fax is run from some files in the Windows\System32 folder.

It runs as a service and I cannot figure out how to do what I want. I have tried many things and will not bother going into what did not work. This silly thing has become a learning quest and has me pulling my hair out. And I don't have many to begin with.

Any help or links much appreciated.

Can you just change the user that starts the service? If she is the only user, could she just be the service operator?

Here is what I know about fax, and I don't know how different XP (assuming you are using XP) is from server 2003, it shouldn't be too different. But, you should be able to give any user you want rights for the fax by going to Start>All Programs>Accesories>communications>Fax>Fax Service Manager. Rightclick on Fax (local) and select properties. Under security add your wife's account and give her fax and manage fax documents rights.

I hope this helps.

Thanks. Maybe I've been making this too complex. I'll try at my next opportunity. This computer is at her office.

I've got XP Pro in the topic summary. :)

I documented another possibility for this scenario here if the other measures don't do the trick.

I won't be able to get back to the office until Friday afternoon.

I could walk my wife through it on the phone, but it's easier to just do it myself. If you know what I mean. :D

Here's what ended up working and I just kind of stumbled upon it. And this is from memory, so keep that in mind.

As a user with admin privileges, from the Start>Programs menu, I right clicked and went Properties>Security Tab and clicked Advanced. Put a check next to allow this app to run as another user, account, whatever (don't remember the exact wording).

Logged off and back in as Limited Account and launched the app off the shortcut in the Start>Programs menu. I was presented with a box asking what user to run as. Picked an admin account, entered password. The app launched with admin privileges.

I had put a shortcut on the desktop for her and that required the same treatment when launched.

The fax app will launch automatically when a fax is received so I am not certain how it will behave then, but I believe the problem is solved.

There you have it! :)

Edit: Just was thinking, that I didn't try to launch it a second time. I hope it retains the settings. My gut tells me it won't. :(
