I have a month off school and work in August and a reasonable budget to have some fun.

Help me brainstorm some ideas.

Key facts:
- I'm based on Ontario
- I have a reliable car
- I could probably round up friends/girls to join me, or could go solo

Ideas I've come up with so far:
- horseback riding in northern ontario
- road trip to strange and wonderful places
- staying home and seriously working on a business idea I have
- buying a huge stack of books and a journal and finding a secluded place to read

Any other ideas? I don't normally get this much time off, so I really want to do something worthwhile with it.

I realize it's hard to make suggestions because you don't know me, but maybe your ideas will jive with my personality. What have you guys done with time off?
 
Well, from an American perspective, that would be the age when you and your HS/college buddies could really have on "last great adventure" because everyone would be going off to work/marriage/grad school afterwards. I recommend doing something really random and crazy, like taking a road trip to Las Vegas with a bunch of your friends. You can stop in random spots along the way, mess around, get drunk, then have a great time in Vegas.

That's probably what I'd do...

It's not a bad idea at all.

The catch is that I've already been to Vegas -- in fact, I've already driven there. But that was with family. I suppose it would be entirely different with friends.

So I'm definitely thinking about that.

My fraternity wants to go to Nova Scotia, so that's another idea.

But is this really the height of human experience? To travel randomly? The more I think about this, the more I find that it's such an odd commentary on my life that I have no real idea what to do with four unstructured weeks.

I suppose I should've included the implied criteria that I want this to be RELAXING =)

It can involve active things, but generally shouldn't stress me out unnecessarily. Like if I have to get on a plane, that's stress I can deal with. But if I purposefully cause stress for myself by trying to raise hell, that seems unnecessary. =)

I assure you, I've been there before. If you attempt to have the kind of experience that will be the highlight of your life, you will fail. At this stage in life, it is important to merely do something that you will remember forever. My best friend and I both graduated a semester early, so we decided to go to Europe for a month and just backpack around for a month and a half. Sometimes you just have to do something, without big plans, and then as you experience it you will discover things about yourself that maybe you never knew.

Sorry to ramble...it's kind of hard to explain what I'm trying to convey I guess...

Okay, I'll definitely put this on my list. It sounds like this might make an interesting component of a trip rather than entire trip itself.

I would travel to a diffrent country. i am studying abroad in Japan next semester..but when I graduate I hope to do a back pack trip of Euorope...I would go for that.

Right. You're 23, when are you going to have a good chance to do something crazy again? Especially with your friends? Who knows?

You will have PLENTY of time to think about your business ideas when youre at work, believe me, and even more time to read stuff when you get old and can't sleep more than 5 hours a night. Just go for it, what do you have to lose?

Those are good points. I guess I'm afraid that if I don't tackle some of my ambitions now, they'll just slip by me.

I seriously want to learn how to ride horses in the middle of nowhere. I guess that's not really that crazy, is it.

The problem is, unlike the "guys lets road trip party drunk beer!!" ideas, I doubt I could find anyone who would want to just drive to Northern Ontario and saddle up. So I think I'd kinda be stuck doing it alone.

I do have a whole month off, so I suppose I could take a few days for horseback riding and leave the remaining majority of the time for a road trip.

I've spent a lot of my life in cars. And in hotels. Driving. Seeing things. I'm a well-travelled person. If I'm going to travel, it needs to somehow be novel. A novel location or a novel experience. Somehow.
 
what ever you do take alot of pics and post a thread on here.....us working stiffs will live vicariously through your adventure posts during our boring hours at work 😛

Oh that's a great idea dude, I've been meaning to buy a digital camera.

My last one sucked. I spent like $600 on it and it always took blurry pictures and the batteries didn't last long.

Then I see other people with these dinky cameras that they bought on eBay that take perfect pictures and last forever.
