Snatch was SUCK!!!:|
Can you qualify that with a statement of perhaps a film that in your eyes isn't suck? >>
This year, I'd have to say that
"Memento" is the neatest trick to date. Mind-bending plot that actually works IF you pay attention.
I liked "Snatch" more than Guy Ritchie's previous wank, "Lock , Stock & Two Smoking Barrels", by the virtues of the characters being more inteligible (I KNOW that Brad was supposed to be a worse version of Benicio Del Lawnboy'd character in "The Usual Suspects"
and there being a few cool set pieces.
But overall, "Snatch" was little more than watching Guy "Hey! I knocked up Madonna!" Ritchie jerk off with mindless style over substance. (Even Tarantino can't pull this stuff anymore.)
I think that a lot of peeps are too young to have seen truly great movies and with their limited vocabulary and experiences, are susceptible to overpraising decent, though derivative films like "The Matrix" and totally falling for the monumental, steaming pile of suck that was "Gladiator". They then turn on a truly magical film like "Crouching Tiger...", because they can't stand the "mushy stuff" and hate that it's CHICKS fighting. (Hey kids, go see "Kiss of the Dragon". Jet Li kicks much butt in it.)
Snatch was pure evil, it's just not as good (and certainly not great) as too many here are raving.
