run lola run and snatch were awesome. franka potente and tykwer teamed up
again to make 'the princess and the warrior' which was given a limited
release in l.a. and n.y. three weeks ago.

the critics are generally not as enthused as they were with 'run lola run'.
tykwer tried to crib from 'lola' and came up short - it seems.

synopsis of 'the princess and the warrior' from the sony site via
upcomingmovies.com :

"Somewhere out there love is waiting... They meet for the first time,
after a horrible accident, underneath a truck. The sad and angry Bodo
(Fürmann), a small time criminal who is always running, from himself
as well as the law, and Sissi (Potente), a shy, quiet nurse who works
in a psychiatric clinic. Bodo saves Sissi's life, which is literally
hanging by a thread, then disappears without trace. Obsessed by the
Incident, Sissi sets out on a mission to find the mysterious stranger,
and to discover whether their paths crossed through simple blind chance
or the intricate mechanisms of destiny itself."

<< Snatch was SUCK!!!:|

Can you qualify that with a statement of perhaps a film that in your eyes isn't suck?
>>

This year, I'd have to say that "Memento" is the neatest trick to date. Mind-bending plot that actually works IF you pay attention.

I liked "Snatch" more than Guy Ritchie's previous wank, "Lock , Stock & Two Smoking Barrels", by the virtues of the characters being more inteligible (I KNOW that Brad was supposed to be a worse version of Benicio Del Lawnboy'd character in "The Usual Suspects") and there being a few cool set pieces.

But overall, "Snatch" was little more than watching Guy "Hey! I knocked up Madonna!" Ritchie jerk off with mindless style over substance. (Even Tarantino can't pull this stuff anymore.)

I think that a lot of peeps are too young to have seen truly great movies and with their limited vocabulary and experiences, are susceptible to overpraising decent, though derivative films like "The Matrix" and totally falling for the monumental, steaming pile of suck that was "Gladiator". They then turn on a truly magical film like "Crouching Tiger...", because they can't stand the "mushy stuff" and hate that it's CHICKS fighting. (Hey kids, go see "Kiss of the Dragon". Jet Li kicks much butt in it.)

Snatch was pure evil, it's just not as good (and certainly not great) as too many here are raving.

For those of you with the run lola run dvd, watch the movie with the directors commentary...it adds a whole new dimension to the movie.

It is one of my favorite movies, and you learn a lot more with the director's commentary than you did before.

check it out.

When done properly, the commentaries are so cool! T2:UE had a great one, but The Matrix's totally blew. Sometimes they have commentary subtitles in addition to, or instead of, audio comments. Ghostbusters had additional subtitles while The Abyss had only subtitles, but they were VERY informative.

I'm geeked cuz the new Die Hard DVD hits the stores today.:)

I saw the movie. Best thing about it is
that they made it in my hometown: Wuppertal
