I dislike rap. Not my kind of music. I just listened to some songs by Run DMC, and I have to admit, these guys are pretty damn good. I like the fact they use real instruments, such as guitars, drums, etc. Unlike those current rappers who use machines of some sort to make their beats, and obnoxious sounds by using their mouths.

Anyone like Run DMC? :)

Rum DMC is by far the most influential rap artists IMO, even more so than the Suger Hill Gang :)

Cheers Thin Lizzy

If you've ever heard the Roots - the percussionist makes all of those sounds himself, unmastered. What makes it so impressive is that with an excellent percussionist, music or rap done a cappella can sound like it was mixed in a machine even if it was not.

There's still good rap out there. I'd argue that the bigger problem is

old fan base > new fan base

It's tricky...

Here is just one example of the "obnoxious noises from their mouths" that I am talking about. :)

If you have heard that song "Drop it like its hot" or something like that, somebody is making some stupid "wooooooooot" sound. Hard to explain, but if you heard the song, you might know what I am talking about. I hate that song so much. My cousins play it over and over. :|

That Kings of Rock song is awesome!

Boogie Down Productions are good.

I also like Lords of the Underground...although they are a bit newer

I go on beat...
off beat...
then jump right back on ti'ma
I drop another rhyme
and talk about your fat ugly mama (EEWWW!!)
M.C.'s cannot rock me
I'm stone-proof
Me grabbin' the mic
is like Superman running to a phone booth

I just heard that song yesterday in Wal-mart while picking up our printed photos. Every time I go in there, someone seems to turn ALL the stereos in the stereo section to "94.1 Jamz" or whatever the hell it is, and so I was subjected to the aforementioned song. It may be plumbing new levels of suckitude.
 to Run DMC.

Run-DMC is from a time when hip-hop was about making fun music. It all died when hip-hop turned who can be the biggest thug asshole.

RIP Jam Master Jay

Same at my local Wal Mart. We have two stupid rap stations, 98.5 "The Beat" and 92.1. Someone ALWAYS has the radios on either one of those stations. So I just change the station to 104.5 "#1 For Classic Rock." ;) Best station in the world!!
