Hi,
my son played around with my second box, and now the RUN command is missing from the Start menu:Q
How can I put it back and in what folder/directory is it in?
Oh, it's running Win XP.

thanks.

i forget where it is at the moment, i'd check windows directory or system32.

btw, if you hold down the windows key and press R you get the same run prompt.

Sounds like you should give your son his own XP logon, WITHOUT Administrative privileges. There's really only two ways (I know of) to get rid of the Run command. Either he edited the registry, or he used the Group Policy Editor.

Click Start/Run/gpedit.msc <enter>

Click on User Configuration
Click on Administrative Templates
Click on Start Menu and Taskbar
Doubleclick "Remove Run Menu from Start Menu"
Click "Not Configured"

Exit Group Policy Editor. You may have to reboot. Now, ya wanna tell us exactly how your son managed to pull that off?

Thanks Silkkster

I don't know, but he's 22, so He knows quite a bit about OS's.
but He doesn't how he did it and how to get it back.

Actually, you can drag it off the start menu quite easily (too easily perhaps!)

He might have just turned it off in the Taskbar and Toolbar properties. Just right click on a blank space on the toolbar, and go to properties. Then go the the Start menu tab, click customize, and it's one of the options in the Advanced start menu options list.

heheh...you are correct. Like I said, I know of only three ways...or at least now. Sometimes it's the easiest way that escapes you. I assumed the worst scenario as in other MS operating systems vs. the ease at which XP will let you customize the taskbar . Good catch.
