I think the best way to do this is with live USB versions...

I have a fast 16GB USB drive that I use over and over again to try different distros without installing them.

Otherwise, I would consider a second hard drive that you can easily swap.

I agree. You can multi boot GNU/Linux, but it isn't something I've ever done. A flash drive is pretty easy, and it doesn't even have to be a live install. It can be a full install as you would a regular hd. That way makes things easier, and there's less opportunity for screwing things up, especially when you're just playing around. I'd only do a dual boot if I had a real need for it, but I can't think of many needs that installing extra packages on my main system, or virtualization wouldn't cover. One thing that /might/ be interesting is a tiny distro that boots fast to use for quick net access, but again, that could be done off of flash media, and would reduce complexity. It's a good way to use obsolete thumb drives. You can fit a tiny distro in 128mb, though 256mb is more comfortable.

You can absolutely make a new partition and install another (or even the same distro on it separately). In the end you would just need to be sure the grub (or whatever other bootloader you choose) is updated correctly.

You need to hit the boot device selection key for your mb. Mine's F8, but they can vary a bit. Select your flash drive to boot from it. If it's a live install, there should be no credential prompt. If you did a real install, input what you setup during install.

Does it recognize the drive?

Well i tried to install ubuntu or Lubuntu PPC along side debian wheezy ppc but all i,no desktop nothing then i lost debian too, so i had to reinstall debian all toghether,so forget any other Linux Distro For PPC ,i ended up to give up on Ubuntu and have to recognize that the best Distro for Imac Power PC is Debian Wheezy any other is a piece of crap software,i don't knowwhy this testers have the Ubuntu Iso's for PPC and these won't work out of the Box. So lucky i found Debian wheezy7.,So i posted A question On Ubuntu forums about this.

My question is why Debian has a PPc like Wheezy that has everything runnig out of the box and Ubuntu that is supposed to be the best OS, don't have a OS PPC similar to Debian wheezy, just can't undestand! either Ubuntu has PPC easy install like Debian or just quit all toghether the support.
i suggest either you have the right support or just say we do not support it at all and take out the PPC ISO's,so people will not be dissapointed.

Who are you talking to? This is a support forum. Those posting here to help others are all unpaid volunteers. I think it would be correct to say that hardly any of us are developers. Why have you brought your complaint to us?

Look under PowerPC architecture and note the date.

https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/ub...ry/000098.html

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/PowerPCDownloads

The main differences between Debian and Ubuntu from what I can gather is that the Debian developers take their time, often a long time, to release the latest stable version. Further more Debian has more developers than Ubuntu. And this is why

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Ubuntu/ForDebianDevelopers

Ubuntu is a Linux distribution that rests heavily on Debian but it has never been the intention of the Ubuntu developers to rebrand Debian in all its supported architectures. The Ubuntu developers have their own goals and are taking Ubuntu in the direction they choose. That cannot for practical reasons include porting Ubuntu to every variation of hardware on the market.
You guys maybe right, but where you guys want me to post this kind questions? tell me and i will post these. besides why i can install the
Ubuntu iso and easy can install the Whole Ubuntu and then at log in and password and no Desktop to be found it seems to a litle dificult to understand. Sorry but i'm no savey on Software but it's kinda hard to understand.

Debian takes their builds seriously. If they say they support an architecture, it's a first class citizen. Their goal is packaging quality software. Ubuntu's goal is popularity. Ppc isn't a popular architecture, so it isn't gonna get much attention.

I would try updating the grub menu from debian while the USB is plugged in.
