Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld Wednesday outlined three scenarios that could avert a war against Iraq:

1. Saddam Hussein leaves voluntarily and is followed by new leadership that abides by international law.

2. Saddam leaves involuntarily.

3. Saddam adheres to U.N. resolutions.

How realistic are any of those possibilities? "Only time will tell," Rumsfeld told reporters during a Pentagon briefing.

saddam will not leave 'voluntarily'. until his body is blown to smithereens and his ashes are carried by winds to
parts far and wide, he will stay put and fight to the end. saddam is bound by by honor of clan, tribe, tradition,
and the promise of martydom. his megalomanical noodle has looked deep into the future and seen his legend.
rumsfeld knows this.

2. Saddam leaves involuntarily.

saddam has fought off countless coup attempts and popular uprisings. he oversees nearly a dozen intellligence
agencies, all of them, in one degree or another, have their eyes turned inward onto the citizens and officers of iraq.
everybody is watching somebody while they themselves are being watched. its endless redundancy, a police state
like none other. some analysts believe his evil thoroughness rivals that of stalin and hitler. rumsfeld is aware of
this too.

3. Saddam adheres to U.N. resolutions.

this is assinine on the face of it. he proves his own twisted insincerity. he could at least have
kept up the appearance of straight face by not resorting to such stupidity. this is a bad public relations
effort, although he might score a few brownie points stateside.

1 and 2 grow more likely everyday. 1 will never happen.

Rumsfeld knows very well none of those requirements will ever be met to his satisfaction. I call BS on "Only time will tell"

I agree, but Rumsfeld would gladly let the war be averted if any of those 3 things happened.
