It looks like John Carmack is not the only one to take advantage of the 3rd texture unit in Radeon chips. Not sure of the source of this image but it makes for interesting discussion on how it will be taken advantage of for better visuals. Will the impact will on today's two texture units graphics chip be slowdowns on the order of 50% ? Can the third texture path be disabled optionally in the game?

Link to 3rd texture unit support image.
Will the Radeon be the 3DMark2001 King of the Hill as benchmarks are rewritten with the 3rd texture unit in mind? Where will
the GF2 Ultra and GF2 Pro stand if the 3rd texture unit becomes as common as 32-bit rendering?

hmm.. I wasn't aware that Star Trek Voyager: Elite Force uses 3 texture units...

btw, I just saw a review of the N64 version of that game called The WOrld Is Not Enough. it got some kickass scores! I wonder what it's going to be like on the PC.. I would call that a 'MUST HAVE' game. however I need a good connection (something better then my 56k modem) to take advantage of multiplayer.. grr.

Warcraft 3? Interesting.

With these games the Radeon should be able to match its theoretical fillrate in real world situations.

lol... 3 texture units is S.T.U.P.I.D.

Always something positive to say, eh Dave? ;)

Three texture units is good for something....

It gives ATI the ability to say that their Radeon does 1.2 Gigatexels per second. Thats great for marketing.
