A member of DP Review's forum's posted specs for the Canon 5d MKII that they received from a non-disclosed source. I would buy it if I had the cash! Looks like this is going to be the new "regular" pro line since nearly identical to the 1DMKIII, except for AF, MP, FPS and a few other things....for $2k more!

The new 5D II will not be released at Photokina, but instead will be a surprise announcement on April 22, according to a source I am unwilling to disclose.

The specs of the new camera are as follows (final name unavailable):

- 15.3 MP full frame CMOS sensor (vastly improved light-gathering capacity per pixel: improved micro lenses; miniaturized micro circuitry; enhanced signal/noise ratio)

- Weather sealing same as 1Ds Mark III

- Dual Digic III with all-new "CXR" NR system reported to best 3rd party NR software. Available as a C.F with 4 levels of customizable parameters.

14 bit A/D conversion

- ISO 12800 (C.F. up to 25600)

- Reported 1 2/3 stop sensitivity improvement

- All-new 29-point TTL CMOS sensor
with 12 cross-type for F/2.8 or faster lens
(35% faster than 40D)

- Micro lens fine adjustment for up to 14 lenses

- 300,000 exposure shutter durability

- 6.0 / 3.0 fps

- 3.0" LCD
922,000 pixels

- EOS Integrated Cleaning System

- Live View (improved from 450D; latest generation)

- 6/3 fps continuous shooting for up to 68 frames

- MSRP $3499, available June 2

It'll be interesting to see where Sony slots in their 24MP FF 6FPS A900.

I'm curious to see if Canon has matched the D3's high-ISO performance.

It will be interesting to see what the price point will be on that camera. I don't envision many pro photographers with the D2X /D3 /1DMKII /1DMKIII (and to some extension D200 /D300 /5D) switching to a different brand due to the pros actually use Canikon's extensive lens lines.

Exactly; depends on the price point.

5DMk2 - 15MP, 6FPS, FF
A900 - 24MP, 6FPS, FF, IS

If the Sony is $500 less...not much incentive. At $2499, Sony will create a new segment and make an impact.

Reported 1 2/3 stop sensitivity improvement
seeing as how the 20D was 1 and 1/3 stop behind the 5D in terms of detail - noise, and the 40D nearly matches the 5D in terms of noise and detail, and another half a year of development (plus a much more expensive platform), that's pretty believable.

rumored specs have been floating around for the 5D Mk. II for the last year. while these look believable, and so are more credible, excuse me if i take it with a bit of salt (especially the 1D type weather sealing. my ass. 40D type or slightly better is what i would expect..

the original 5D was launched a year after the 1Ds Mk. II, and there is a photokina this year. what would canon have left for photokina? i guess if the camera is done and after all the bad press of the 1D Mk. III there is no reason not to get it out the door early. though, now i'm curious as to what they might have up their sleeve for august? (3D? 7D? super compact SLR ala E-420?)

oh, and those people in the first part of the thread saying that the specs aren't realistic because the LCD is better than the 1D line are frickin' retards. same with the people ignoring the improved microlenses and amplifier circuitry and complaining that canon is just upping the MP and ignoring IQ.

edit: and also a jeers to the guy who said it is already overdue based on canon's previous release schedule. the 5D was announced 11 months after the 1Ds II. the 1Ds III was announced 7 months ago. canon still has a few to go before the 5D II is overdue. as long as nikon and sony don't really have an answer to the 5D, canon is not going to cannibalize sales of the $8000 1Ds by letting a $3000 5D get anywhere near it in sheer image quality.

I would like to see something like the DP1 rather than the E420, assuming this rumor pans out. Or just a drop in price across the board :)

though a price drop would be nice, it wouldn't counter a D90 launch. you can't have nothing for the biggest trade show in your industry.

canon won't do a dp-1, can't sell lenses. someone like sigma or olympus is going to have to be successful at it before canikon are interested. SLR is king! (since 1959)

yet more small silver compacts would be nothing. i see they announced three more of those yesterday, and i still can't tell the difference between them.

oh, I understand. I was just dreaming... haha. The DP1 is such a niche product it's not even funny.

they look a little different some have IS, some have bigger screens... :p

Being a 5D user, I was thinking that I'd pass 5D MK2 and get the MK3 revision of it. But the specs of 5D MK2 is quite soild(if it's true) and I'm sold.

What gives? Is the 40D's broken or something? The 5D has never been intended as a sports camera, and this makes no sense given how short a span the 40D has been out.

Micro lens fine adjustment for up to 14 lenses

About time.

these specs make a lot more sense as an eos 3d and would allow canon a 7d during photokina. then canon's digital numbering would start to line up more with their film numbering.
