Rumored myTouch HD with dual core processor

Now that T-Mobile's got its G2 slider out in the open, the cosmic universe reckons it's time to look towards the next HSPA+ device -- and the next iteration of the Android-laden myTouch series. We've seen alleged pics of the myTouch HD before, and now TmoNews has what it claims is an internal document from the carrier boasting some of the key features of the device. Sure, it could be all for naught, but let's hear this one out. According to the alleged paper, the myTouch HD runs on "America's largest 4G network" (that's gonna make some eyes roll) and has a 3.8-inch screen, Swype, 4GB internal space, a bundled 8GB SD card, a five megapixel rear camera, and a VGA camera on the front for video chat over Qik or Yahoo Messenger. There's also talk of screen sharing for pictures and video onto a HDTV, but that could be something as simple as HDMI output. Something tells us the 1GHz "dual processor" is more than likely a typo that's meant to say dual-core, à la the Snapdragon chips, but when you're dealing in the world of the unconfirmed, we suppose anything's possible.

Very cool if true. I'll never go back to T-Mobile but if you love them this looks like a top phone for any carrier if all is true.

Remember, TMo is a Germany based company and is pretty big in Europe, the 4g claim may be a worldwide claim, not just NA.

I have T-mobile and they have HSPA+ here in Orlando but its a joke.
Its great get you get a strong hspa+ signal but that far and few in between.
I'm tired of going to sporting events and I can't get data service to upload pictures to save my life.
T-mobile should have upgraded their 3G service than trying for 4G.
They are a bunch of cheap bastards.
They know upgrading their current towers to HSPA+ would be a whole lot cheaper than building new ones.
Did you read where ATT spent like $5billion dollars upgrading their 3G network this year ?? At least they are making the effort.

T-Mobile's HDSPA+ network covers more area than Sprint's 4G network and is also faster. That doesn't mean they both aren't complete and total garbage, but T-Mobile's current implementation is superior. You don't even need a special phone to take advantage of it.

I read that with the Epic, Sprint 4G is much faster than the EVO.
I can't speak for Sprint 4G but T-mobile hspa+ is crap.
Its the same with T-mobile 3G.
We all know their 3G coverage is inconsistent.
All hey did was upgrading their current 3G towers.
Hence the same inconsistent crap.

WiMAX offers peak rates up to 128 Mbit/s downlink and 56 Mbit/s uplink

HSPA+ offers peak rates up to 56 Mbit/s downlink and 22 Mbit/s uplink

These are the HIGHEST theoretical they can offer right now.

WiMAX obviously still needs to lay down the ground work. If you get a 4G signal right now you'll most likely get a weak one. Couple few towers with high frequencies and obstructions, WiMAX suffers because of that. I'm sure once more and more WiMAX towers get put up, it'll help with a lot of the 4G problems we have right now. Speed will improve as will battery life as it won't have to try to pull data off a low signal.

Sometimes you just have to find the right CR.
A friend of mine been with Tmobile for 6 yrs and she got a HD2.
2 months later and she absolutely hated it.
She found a CR after the 2nd try that let her get a BB 9700 for the subsidized price.

On my HSPA phone I can get 4-5 MB/Sec in strong areas. I'm consistently getting 1.5-2.5 in the bad areas. On an HSPA+ phone or webconnect stick I have seen speeds around 10MB/Sec.

How is that bad? Its fucking awesome.

Your life will be a lot more peaceful if you just shrug off the ignorant statements made around here. If you listen to people that say things like that, you will end up believing that the only cells phone out are the 3 or 4 they personally see a day, the coverage is limited to whatever it is withing +/- 10 feet of them and that the world ends at their line of site.

First of all its not 4G. Second you aren't getting MegaBytes, you're getting MegaBits

You're right, it is megabits not megabytes, so I capitalized incorrectly. Sorry. That said... go to speedtest.net I just did it from my phone. In a crappy HSPA area for T-Mobile and got 3.23 Megabits. Then I ran the same test on my laptop through my Verizon Fios internet and got 5.65.

Point is, T-Mobiles HSPA is VERY fast for what it is. Its nearly as fast as home internet and in a good area would probably exceed home internet in some instances.


And it is as much 4G as anything else. Sure, technically its not. But for marketing purposes and ease of conversation, you can call it 4g.

Verizon does have the largest 3G network, and T-Mobile does have the largest 4G network. T-Mobile covers a lot more people with HSPA+ than Sprint does with Wimax.

As for speeds - yea, WiMax has higher theoretical speeds, but what about practical? I live on the Eastside of Seattle...a place generally well catered to by technology companies. We have both WiMax and T-Mobile HSPA+. On my HD2, I've hit max speeds of 5200Kb/s, and I average about 3000. With the Epic 4G, I've hit 6000...once. Most of the time I get about 1500. And if I'm indoors, there's a very low chance of me getting Wimax at all.

Point being...while T-Mobile might have America's smallest 2G and 3G networks, as of right now, they definitely DO have the biggest 4G. Laugh all you want, but its how it is. The whole "is it 4G or not" debate is pointless. Its just a marketed buzzword, what consumers care about is actual speed. Technically, EV-DO Rev.0 and HSPA+ are both "3G", but in practice? They aren't even close. In real world speed, T-Mobile's HSPA+ network is as fast as Sprint's WiMax network, and they're both the closest thing to "4G" out there. Sure, in a few years LTE will leave them in the dust. But its not there now, so this is as 4G as you're gonna get.

It has been tested in real life by reviewers. HSPA+ is anywhere from fast to fast as 4G, but wasn't faster than 4G.

As I pointed out - while I did get a higher max speed on Wimax than T-Mobile, on average, T-Mobile was much faster. And you say "WiMax = 4G, HSPA+ doesn't". There are purists out there who will scoff at you as well, and say LTE is 4G, WiMax is only 4G-like. As far as the carriers are concerned, they are buzzwords. Why raise so much fuss over a technical detail about which the average consumer couldn't care less? T-Mobile is, on average, the fastest and largest 4G or "4G-Like" network out there right now.

Obviously if you don't live in an HSPA+ area than the T-Mobile speeds aren't going to be great. The same could be said for any carrier. That said. T-Mobile has a larger 4G footprint than any carrier. And in the areas where them and their competition both have 4G coverage, T-Mobiles is faster.

Meh. HSPA+ is overrated. It's 3G damnit. They're only calling it 4G because people are freaking out about LTE in the US or something.

I believe it's known as 3.5 or 3.75G worldwide.

On paper 4G should be faster but so what? HSDPA/HSUPA can be upgraded a lot even up to 84mbps, so 3G technology isn't dead yet. What really matters is real life performance.

Verizon's EVDO Rev. A network doesn't really hit 3mbps that often. You're averaging 1-2mbps, and sometimes a bit faster. AT&T's 7.2mbps HSDPA network doesn't really hit that. You get anywhere from 2-4mbps. So WIMAX may have 84mbps capabilities like HSPA+ has 21mbps capabilities according to T-Mobile, but let the real world performance tell the difference.
