IMO AMD doesn't need to release a product to go after the 1080ti. They've already shown Vega running 10% faster than the 1080 with debugging level Fury drivers. The clocks were low @ 1200. They could slot this thing right below the 1080ti @ 650, with good coolers like on the Sapphire Tri-X, and I think it would sell well. There is a gap there that Nvidia hasn't filled. Depending on performance they might be able to pull off 700 with aftermarket coolers vs a 1080ti FE. It's almost like Nvidia invited AMD to have the spot.

Even a blind man could have seen the 1080 Ti coming, and its configuration was pretty much exactly as expected.

The idea that an easy-to-anticipate release of a card pretty much everyone knew was coming somehow derailed long-laid plans to launch Vega on (redacted date) beggars belief.

this is not even rumors since no sources are listed, it's just speculation.

It's less than speculation, at least that would have some form of logic and vague connecting of random of dots. This is more "I dislike AMD or like being a troll so let me make a post" level stuff. As has been pointed out multiple times AMD knew about GP102. Everyone knew about GP102. Everyone knew it was coming and roughly when. Everyone knew roughly what the performance would be . Everyone knew roughly what price it would be. Hell, most everyone knew a full GP102 was coming as well. Anyone want to know a HUGE secret? Nvidia will most likely do this again with Volta, what a shocker!

We've seen some form of Vega demoed. We've been told H1. We've seen Vega and Prey marketed together. So let's ask ourselves what is more likely to happen. AMD builds vega and then sandbags the entire development of it recouping nothing as this "rumor" states while have zero in the pipeline for the next year plus OR AMD releases Vega before the end of H1. Really. This isn't hard. Of course they are going to sink untold sums of money spent on R&D into a giant gas fire to heat their offices.

The main part of the costs are R&D (+ design I guess) and that is already sunk by the time you're getting near release anyway.

I didn't said that it won't be released.

I said that it has been delayed indefinitely, as in: it is not known when it will be released.

AMD is making changes to either make it runs faster or make it cheaper to make.
