[rumor] AMD Catalyst Omega Drivers

Some of us like to shuffle around hardware a lot. Even if it means losing a few bucks selling one to try another.

I'm overdue for an AMD card. The last one I've owned was a 5870. Any objection going with a used card? Or is it to risky with miner throwbacks?
Upside of buying new is finding a game bundle that is worthwhile. Omega driver really isn't a factor here, I've been thinking of trying out R9 290.

While the prices are bit higher right now there are several available right now for $270ish new. Looking at sold used listengs they appear to go for 200 - 230 right now and sometimes they are selling for more than new (rofl ebay) personally I dont think saving 70 bucks is worth losing the games and the confidence of a new purchase, but I guess it depends on how you feel about the free games.. although if you don't like them they do sell on ebay too you can easily get 60 bucks for the two you would get from newegg. Making it pointless to purchase new.

The tri-x 290 comes with Civ Beyond Earth and Gold Space edition on newegg.

I am about 40 hours into Civilization, it is a bit different and there are a few flaws (I find this normal for his games, he likes to patch them via expansion a bit I think) but overall I am enjoying it.

So the value question would be are you interested in Alien Isolation, Civ Beyond Earth, Star Citizen Omega ship, and Sniper Elite 3? If so the package is worth a good 80 to 100 bucks right there.

Personally I did not get Sniper Elite because I do not like their aggressive litigation practices and I got Murdered Soul Suspect even though the value is lower because I suspect I might be meh over it and didn't want to waste any money on it, although I maybe should have gotten Sleeping Dogs...

Depending on the source it could be either. We were expecting a Tuesday/Wednesday release so a Monday/Tuesday NDA makes sense. It might be next week and it was a week early.

Like expected, few performance increases: (Omega VS 14.11.2 though)
Doesn't suprise me why they made the comparaison with 13.12.

Considering I was on an early 14 driver, I'll probably see a pretty decent improvement moving to this so I'm happy. I only just moved to 14.11 2 days ago and that was for Dolphin Emulator. Hadn't even tried any games out. For you guys who are on the bleeding edge of drivers each time definitely nothing but for me, i'll see something.

Is a new branch (14.501) but the driver is from 11/12 so is older than 14.11.2 beta (11/17). Must be the WHQL certification.

I'll wait for the next beta.

Yeah but this driver + FC4 v1.5 patch and it runs great on a single 290.
All hitching/stutter is gone!
Heck I may never put my other 290 for x-fire back in my main rig now...(yeah right...LOL)
But the wife can use that 290 a little longer now until I feel I need it.

I'm really pleased with AMD and UBI the last two days. :thumbsup:

Quick and dirty Quad R9 290x 1175/1475 with 4930k at 4.5 Ghz. Will have to plug in other power supply for higher clocks and I will have to Raise CPU clock up

Huh, I had no idea at the time I typed that, that AMD is only going to do these "omega" drivers 1 time per year. They really must be going into a coma for doing WHQL releases.

Bioshock Infinite shows a nice improvement. Alien and Metro Last Light are showing decent improvements in hardwarecanucks' tests too. Not bad overall.

The only thing I really wanted was crossfire profile for Far Cry4. Is that too demanding?

I cannot stand to play on low settings when I have 4 x cards and only one card is being utilized. It's silly.

I read it somewhere on guru3d Far Cry 4 discussion. I'll see if I can find the discussion for you in the form of a link. Supposedly the game is smoother with the new patch but I have yet to test it.
