Rules and Censorship?

I'm not debating the powers that be here. I'm just curious. Call me a newbie.

All the links that are disabled? Threads that are moved? Are they bad? I imagine naughty words are taboo, that's easy enough to assume. But smiley faces? I am confused.

I'm a good girl and I play by the rules. Anywhere I can find them?

Ok, I'll try and answer your thread piece by piece.

Links aren't disabled. There is a special way to post a link, and some people don't do that. Sometimes if the link's contents border on inappropriate the poster will intentionally not make it clickable. Threads are moved to different forums because each forum address different things. If a newbie makes an OT post in general hardware it'll be moved here. Some threads are locked (so no one can reply) if they aren't appropriate or if they discuss illegal activities, etc...

The smiley faces thing is just that the forums recently changed and the ,,, etc icons changed. People liked the old icons so they complained.

Every now and then, it becomes obvious that the mods and admins NEED A NAP.

They get pretty lock/delete/ban happy sometimes. It comes in waves. --But it usually doesn't last TOO long. it's just kinda funny. You'll be fine. Don't worry about the TOS here.

There are different moderators. Some have a very good sense of humor and will even join in the "fun". Others are absolutely no-nonsense. You may get an idea when their shifts are after awhile.

There aren't really any rules. The longer you are here the more you get a "feel" for this place.

Overall its pretty fun. Use the Golden Rule as your guide. If it would offend YOU if posted by someone else, don't post it.

Isla, following the rules is easy. I've been posting here for quite a long time, and in that span I've only had two locked threads. One was justified, and I knew it was coming but felt compelled to say what I did anyway; and the other was unnecessarily locked during some "moderator craziness" that pre-dates most of the members here. I've never had a post edited by a moderator, other than once or twice to add a comment or make a joke. It's not hard to fit in, just use some common sense.
