Id like to thank this ad for scaring the living sh!t out of me last night at around 3am. Had my speakers 3/4 up from earlier in the night.

Can anything be done about this one? Its a little over the top.

I have not noticed that ad or any ad with sound. I could see how it would be annoying as I often have my speakers set at loud levels.

This ad crosses the line IMO. Even worse than popups.

Is this one of those Flash ads that's embedded on the page, and only has a Close option if the programmer decided to include one? I really hate those things; unfortunately, I've probably registered a few clicks on them, trying to find the little X on it, but instead, it just opens the advertiser's website. Don't they realize that these ads only make people mad? If I hear something like that starting, the first thing I want to do is find the window doing it, and close it. Then, maybe something like sending a few million viruses to the servers of the advertiser would be nice. The viruses would just display ads across the monitors, with lots of fake Close buttons that would just open more ad windows.:D

I don't mind normal .GIF ads, but the flash ads that make noise and move around the page drive me nuts. Fortunately, I don't have any problems with them anymore. :)

It's always possible that they haven't thought of that, though I doubt it. If they get a few hits (or even sales) and a thousand angry people, they're still doing allright in their book. I'd like to see the ad company take a more active role in censoring or "strongly" advising as to what sort of ads will be best received and how. I'm disappointed that the occassional pop-up or ad+sound gets through and Anand is forced to call/e-mail and layeth down the unholy smack.

I just heard that ad with the dog for the first time today. Since I'm in an office atmosphere it is quite irritating.

Just subscribe and there aren't barking ads or any for that matter to deal with whether its 3AM or 3PM.

Arghgh..

got it again.

Doesn't Anandtech have any kind of agreement with its adserver against obtrusive ads ?

I'd rather have popups than this

I had my speakers turned almost all the way off, so I heard this voice talking and a dog barking and thought somebody was in the next room or downstairs with a dog. Finally realized what it was.

I make a point of NEVER dealing with a company that uses fax spam.

I guess my new policy is to NEVER deal with a company that uses sound spam either.

More or less. I manage the ad streams for the forums. The problem is that 24-7 dumps content in their stream that we do not allow. Over the past 5-6 months they have been pretty good, please report any obtrusive banners to me immediately. kkubicki@anandtech.com.

I cannot find the banner you are refering to. Can you take a screenshot?

Thanks a lot!
