Rudy Giuliani says there were no radical Islamic Terror attacks in U.S. before Obama

http://ktla.com/2016/08/15/rudy-giu...c-terrorist-attacks-before-obama-took-office/

Rudy Giuliani, who served as mayor of New York City during 9/11, claimed Monday that there had not been “any successful radical Islamic terrorist attack in the United States” in the eight years before President Barack Obama took office.

But the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks took place less than eight years before Obama was sworn into office in January, 2009.

“Under those eight years before Obama came along, we didn’t have any successful radical Islamic terrorist attack in the United States. They all started when (Hillary) Clinton and Obama got into office,” Giuliani said Monday in Ohio where Trump delivered a speech on radical Islamic terrorism.

The truly sad part is most Americans believe him.

Cut the bullshit.
The claim is only made by taking what Giuliani said out of context. He was very clearly referring to after the Patriot Act; he specifically was talking about Pence's contributions to the Patriot Act - no more attacks during the rest of Bush's term in office, then a few things started happening after Obama was in office. Immediately prior to those statements, he was discussing the 9/11 attack. At most, he misspoke and should have said 7 years. -Admin DrPizza

Edit: decided to unlock this misinformation thread, since I've seen several (shameful) major news organizations running with the same misleading story. I presume there can be some discussion about lack of journalistic integrity, but this time, on the left.

I've never been a Giuliani fan myself, he's been a BS artist for decades.

Are we supposed to be happy that "only" 3000 Americans died from terrorism on US soil under Bush presidency? How many died from terrorism in the US under Obama presidency?

I will give Trump props for saying in the Republican debates that 9/11 happened under George W Bush when Jeb! tried the ridiculous claim that W kept us safe. Even Trump doesn't believe what mayor 9/11 is saying.

Look, chowderhead (how appropriate), what the OP claimed, and quite a few news organizations claimed, isn't how it went down. It's been said that every sentence Giuliani says has 3 parts: noun, verb, 9/11. Don't worry, he didn't leave out 9/11. He talked about 9/11 and how bad it was, the efforts that Pence etc. put into passing the Patriot Act, and how the Patriot Act protected us. And, until Obama took office, there wasn't an Islamic attack on the U.S.. Meaning, that the Patriot Act prevented any more attacks after 9/11.

Can he name the plots and terrorists they arrested with the Patriot Act?
I suspect that's a very short list. I think the most we did was setup some local fools with sting / entrapment operations.

What has happened since is the threat of Islamic Terrorism has become realized and is no longer about any organization in particular. It exists as a set of extremist ideals carried over the internet and picked up by impressionable, vulnerable, first or second generation immigrants whose own identities have not been assimilated and often find themselves looking for a sense of purpose. Yesterday it was Al 'Queda, today it is ISIS, tomorrow it'll be another label.

What we need is isolation from the whack jobs overseas combined with a growing, strong, sense of Muslim community here in America. Of successful leaders in positions of power to effect real change in the lives of their followers, and can preach for us all a message moderation, unity and peace. And through such effort find an assimilation long missing from this country.

We face a festering disease that we have either long ignored, or done little to address properly.

I didn't say I agreed with Giuliani! I think a lot of the home grown terrorists are a result of our policies. Heck, they've said so themselves in several cases. One isn't born a terrorist - it takes time to fester. After 9/11, we had the invasion of Iraq. Invasion of Afghanistan. Drone bombings of terrorism suspects. And people feeling marginalized who were pushed over the brink toward radicalization. That takes a bit of time. Ohhhh, about 7 years or so to fester.

Hello? What about the 2002 LA airport shooting? The FBI said that was a terrorist attack. Mayor 9/11 was factually wrong. Even Trump doesn't believe W kept us safe.

It's pretty well known that under Obama's administration that we funded, armed, and radicalized the group that is now known as ISIS. Even the beloved Hillary is guilty of it too when she was Secretary of State.

The middle east is a shit-show and we're all just muddling through. Terrorism is a nebulous concept that obviously applies in some contexts, might apply in others, and should probably be applied given the weight of the factual evidence in some circumstances, but in doing so would provide greater support for terrorist organizations and those that would follow them if we did.

For example: That fuck face at Fort Hood. We refused to call him a terrorist and just called him crazy, why? Not because he wasn't OBVIOUSLY aligned with radical Islam; but because if we can deny the moniker of 'terrorist' to someone who isn't heavily connected, then we those seeking fame for being a 'terrorist' must first connect to some islamic group.

This gives us time to catch them.

So let's stop with this political crap and realize that it really wouldn't have mattered if it was Obama, Hillary, McCain, or rapping Thomas Jefferson: bad things are going to happen and everyone's just doing the best a rational human agent can.

People who can't tell the difference between 7 and 8 years should have their doctorate revoked.

This is the same ole' GOP M.O. Just say shit and hope it sticks. Why do so many fall for it or fail to call it out.

Anyone remember Saddam and 9/11?

Giuliani is factually incorrect. There was the 2002 LAX attack & 2 attacks in 2006-

Let's not also forget we were actively getting soldiers killed and maimed in Iraq at horrific rate.

This was also stated Bush policy. Divert resources and attention into the ME combating (which involves casualties) in order to lower the rate of domestic terror attacks.

So if we are going to debate context, let's debate the entire scope of the strategic decisions that were made and their results.

  1. Would we have had attacks like Orlando if there were masses of troops still in Iraq?
  2. Are the causalities suffered by the armed forces more acceptable than the causalities that have been inflicted on domestic soil?
  3. Are we prepared to pay the tremendous costs of active combat overseas again? The debt is already high, so will we raise taxes or slash other programs to pay for this (or just do what we always do and lost up the debt.)
Let's be clear with Trump's plan too. He has advocated more aggressive /highly aggressive engagement in the ME, but tries to be cute by outsourcing some of it to Russia.

GEORGE W. BUSH, President of the United States: Al-Qaida’s going to fight us wherever we are. See, that’s their strategy. Their strategy is to drive us out of the Middle East. And the fundamental question is, will we fight them? I’ve made the decision to do so. I believe that the best way to protect us in this war on terror is to fight them.
...
GEORGE W. BUSH: I’m credible because I read the intelligence data and make it abundantly clear, in plain terms, that, if we let up, we’ll be attacked. And I firmly believe that.

Guiliani is turning into a complete moron @$$ licking Donald Trump. Regardless of what he said in OP, I've lost total respect for him. Same goes for Chris Christie and Paul Ryan.

Rudy Giuliani IS a complete moron.
Never cared for him much, but he always has had this insane crazed look about him.
Like one of those hard core druggies from back in the 60's that burnt their brain out by doing so many drugs.
And that same look with Newt Gingrich, however Newt learned to control it to some extent.

I can go down an entire list of crazed looking republicans, and one thing they all have in common, they all love Donald Trump. YES! TRUE! All of them.
So either Donald has some secret magical power, a spell that he casts upon unsuspecting subjects, or... Donald is slipping something into their drink.
But the crazed look thing is really true.
Just look at all of the Donald trump supporters. They all have the same type of brain damage in common.
And that is probably why Donald does so well with his base, they can detect the same mental defect in one another, and they can relate.
Like a baby duck knowing which of the mamma ducks is it's mama.
Rudy Giuliani knows his mamma duck from the other ducks.

And for those that love and support Donald Trump, go get your head examined asap.
Your mamma duck is going to flee the nest big time come November 9th.
And where will that leave YOU? ;)

ISIS’s precursor, Al-Qaeda in Iraq, emerged in 2004 to resist the American occupation. Led by Abu Musab Zarqawi, a Jordanian, the group consisted of Sunnis, many of them disgruntled former Iraqi soldiers left without paychecks after the Bush administration disbanded the Iraqi army.

ISIS was created by the Iraqi coalition authority, which ousted the entire government of Iraq. It was when 30,000 individuals who are part of the Iraqi military were forced out. They had no employment, they had no income, yet they were left with access to all the same arms and weapons."

The Bush administration's mismanagement of Iraq encouraged thousands of skilled Iraqis to take their expertise to the anti-American insurgency that eventually became the Islamic State.

Party loyalty is a key component of the human social experience. Sometimes you gotta prop up a turd to collect a paycheck (or hope for a better one). Same thing at work or whatever.

Agreed, but it seems like it's political suicide at the national level to support Trump. At this point, it appears that your odds of getting a cabinet position (at best, if Trump promised you one in his administration) are... 8.3% http://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/2016-election-forecast/#now It seems to be a huge short term gamble at the expense of the long term. Giuliani had pretty favorable name recognition. He's now tarnishing that.

As has been pointed out, there were 3 Islamic terrorist attacks in the US after the Patriot Act but before Obama. His statement was flat incorrect.

Depends on what he's angling for. Loyalty might be suicide in terms of public opinion, but not necessarily for internal party standing (ie this is a lackey we can count on) or some other possible kickback from the trump people (they still own/run a lot of ny real estate after all). If he's not running for office again, the latter motivations get stack ranked above the former.
