Rude Europeans

My friend ran into some nutjobs from New Jersey while I was resting, and he said they claimed everyone here was rude. I haven't met a SINGLE person yet that was rude. On the contrary, I've had normal citizens attempt to help me find a Bank, hidden street, or whatever. I've actually never met such friendly people in my life -- and this is applicable to Stuttgart, German border towns, and Zurich.

I'm having a blast over here, and anyone that claims the average European is snotty or rude is smoking copious amounts of crack rock.

I second that! I had the worst time there. People are just not friendly at all. Not to mention the city smells like piss.

I thought the people there were quite friendly and helpful and not at all rude. They did have a tendency to drive on the sidewalk if there were cars in their way in the street, which can be a little offputting if you're a pedestrian.

The French are DICKS. Absolute DICKS. I'm Canadian, and I didn't hate the French before I went but I sure as fvck do now. Ugh. They tried their very best to ruin our trip.

But you are right, the Germans are retardedly pleasant, helpful, and will speak English happily for you.

In the centre, they're rude jerks. The further out you go, they get better, but in teh main Parisiens are rude.

They rest of France however is completely different. People in the country are great!

I found the opposite.

Parisans were never unpleasant for us. Never pleasant either, but that's the French.

However, in Eastern France...everyone was rude. Normandy they were not terribly pleasant for the most part, but not as bad as Eastern France...

Paris was the only part of the country where we could sit in a bar or restaraunt and expect food in front of us in less than an hour.

I find people far more rude in london than paris. Try travelling around at rush hour and see how many friendly folk you can find.

London can be pretty bad at times but I found outright hostility from Parisians

I've been to London and Paris, and pretty much all the people I met were nice. People love to generalize, so stereotypes will prevail...

I mean, even if you went to another country and met some rude people, do they represent the whole population of that country? Did you meet even a fraction of the people that lived there?

In Paris people were rude when I was there.

But everywhere else (including France outside of Paris) people were really nice.

good point - I like to think that living in Paris for a year I met quite a few people. Some were very ncie but the majority weren't. There were quite a few Anglo/American - French tensions at the time though.

I think people tend to get annoyed with tourists wherever you go too. I know when all the retards come up here to NH to look at the leaves, I'd like to personally excort them all back to where they came. ;)

I think that's just difference in culture. Europeans in general takes time in the meals. Unlike the Americans.. sit, eat and get out. Most European restrauants won't take your orders until you have close your menus and they won't bring your check unless you ask them. They like to sit, relax, enjoy their food. They are not in a hurry at all.

Yep, you should let the server know beforehand that you are in a hurry. It's the same way in the Caribbean

One nice thing about the restaurants that I visited in Italy was that they would leave the menus at the table with you and take your order course by course. You did not have to try and estimate how hungry you were and how much you wanted to eat at the beginning of the meal.

I've met nice people and I've met rude people. I don't find the ratio to be any different than anywhere else I've been.

All the europeans I met when I was over there (Switzerland and Greece) were very nice and helpful.
