I'm new to ruby, and ruby on rails.

Is it possible to run RoR without purchasing a paid apache plugin like Phusion Passenger? I want to run it for non commercial reasons.

I'm not that deep into it, is it as easy as redirecting apache or the RoR server to the correct ports, or is there more to it (hence the cost of this 3dr party apache plugin)?

A couple of years ago, I deployed a Ruby 2.3 app alongside a J2ee portal on apache/tomcat after installing jRuby. Simply use "Warbler". I think it's a Ruby Gem now. But, once you have your app packaged in a WAR file, just drop it on the server. I also believe you can select a non- conflicting port at your discretion or accept the default port assignment.

Hope this helps. Enjoy!

Thank you to both, I apparently used an outdated link from a beginners guide to the open source version of Phusion passenger, because it kept bringing me to a purchase page. I assumed they just made it paid only. I should've dug deeper.
