My friend can do it behind his back in about 25-30 seconds.

It's apparently not that hard. You literally just memorize what you're going to do. Half the time, you don't even look at it anyway, you just do the motions.

I'll believe it when I see it with my own eyes. Until then, I choose to believe that is a backwards video.

No, actually that is real.
Notice he looks at it first, so he can see what center color he has on top and what center colors he has on the sides, that tells him what colors are on which sides since the centers dont move.

After that he is blind folded because he doesn't need to see since he's using memorized steps/combinations to solve the puzzle.
They're combos, something like R1,U2,B3,L2.
I used to have them memorized myself WAY WAY back when i was in high school when the Rubick's cube first came out.(heck that was the 80's...LOL)

Yup. I'm not saying it's easy, but there are algorithms that people memorize so they can look at a cube and just remember a string of moves they perform while blindfolded.

It's like... tying your shoe blindfolded or something.

There was a guy years ago who would come into the pizza shop I worked at. Not the brightest guy in the world by any stretch of the imagination. He could solve a Rubik's cube behind his back in under 30 seconds every time. He claimed he was hit by lightning and had the ability ever since. We asked him why he didn't go on Letterman or something - he claimed he couldn't use God's gift that way. It was neat to watch; we gave him a piece of pizza each time he did it.

Pretty crazy video. Have you guys seen the one the weird shaped ones with like 15 sides?

It's basically the same thing, just more to memorize.

They don't actually go through every movement in their heads. It's basically like chess, at some point, you just memorize patterns and you know exactly what to do to make that pattern into some other pattern and keep going until its finished.

Then you memorize it so that you can do it using only the initial pattern.
