This is actually one of my phobias about elevators, it dropping suddenly (opposite in this case) as I cross the threshold. But, this is the first time that I have ever heard of it happening. One of my friends was on an elevator that dropped suddenly before catching itself for a few moments, scared the shit out of him.
My main problem is that I feel as if I'm jumping up and down in my head after riding on an elevator more than a few floors. I used to not get that feeling, it started a couple of years ago, very unpleasant.
My sympathies to the woman and her family.

Dec. 14 (Bloomberg) -- A woman was killed at a Midtown Manhattan tower housing advertising firm Young & Rubicam after entering an elevator and being crushed when it suddenly rose.
