Hey all, quick question for you. I currently use an antec 1080AMG case (might be switching to Sonata, but still same basic idea). I have a Raptor 74GB hard drive that is a little loud, the seek and stuff doesn't bother me, but it rattles my case a bit sometimes. I was wanting to use rubber washers to mount the thing. However, I don't have any extra 5 1/4 bays, so it has to go in a 3.5 bay. Do they sell washers small enough that they will fit alongside the drive in the 3.5 bay, and how do you keep the washers in place while putting the drive in? Thanks in advance for the help.

Yeah they do. I bought some for like $0.45 a pack from pcmods when they went out of business. As far as keeping them in place, I can only suggest laying the computer on its side and doing the bottom ones and then putting it upright and the remaining two should be cake.

Go to your local hardware store and get some small rubber washers. they are then dirt cheap and no shipping

I tried doing it with those exact washers and it was impossible, BTW does anyone know where to get extra long screws?

So when you all did this, did you mount the drives from the bottom, or from the sides as usual?

Yeah, the newer Antecs mount the hard drives quite differently from the older style cases like the 1080. The SLK3700AMB has the vibration dampers designed in and the BQE and Sonata mount the HDs on rails and/or trays that also have dampers. There's not a lot of extra space in those removable cages for something like grommets. But since the 1000 series is so popular and many other companies sell the same basic design, I'm sure someone has come up with a good mod. Check the Silent PC web site.

Home Depot for the long screws. Took me some time to find the right kind, but they do carry them.
