A week or two ago I got in on the deal over in the Hot Deals forum for getting a Visiontek Xtasy 6564 64MB DDR card from the Gateway accessory store for around $90 after MIRs. I was upgrading from a Radeon original 32MB DDR card, and wondered how much better this card would be.

So, I went and found a demo file for Return To Castle Wolfenstein that people have been using to benchmark. Anyway, the demo file is called 'checkpoint', and I got it from this page: (I didn't use that guy's tweaked.cfg file though). So, I ran my old Radeon through the demo several times at different video settings. Then I installed the new card, and ran it through the demo at the same settings. Check out my comparison benchmarking results
***HERE*** CHECK IT OUT!!!.

(Note: the three tests at the bottom where you see zeros for the Radeon, those are tests that I didn't even bother trying on the old Radeon, because they would have taken "forever" to run)

My conclusion based on these results is: MY NEW VIDEO CARD RAWKS!!!!!! :) (compared to what I had) ...and I haven't even messed around with overclocking it yet!

<edit>
ok, I'm just making a note here that apparently something was wrong with the setup of my old Radeon card, since other people in this thread seem to be able to get much better performance out of their Radeon. So I just wanted to note that. The above scores/FPS's were what *I* got on *my* machine, and may not accurately represent what someone else would get if doing a similar updgrade. In other words, please take my performance numbers above with a grain of salt. Thanks.

LOL, What did you expect? That is really no surprise. Great buy on that Ti card though.

Ok, I know the old 32DDR is reported as the "7200" with newer drivers, so it was'nt the actuall SDR 7200 that is the current model.

I got the same deal but having problem with it. I had it in a new system with Epox 8K7A / AMD 1700+ and 256M DDR, Win XP keeps on crashing with the blue screen that stated problem on nv4_disp.dll which is the driver. I have tried 3-4 different versions include the one from MS update. Maybe I need to reinstall XP to see if it helps. Is this VisionTek card being picky on the driver than the others? My MSI GeForce2 never have any problem...

sorry, i just realized I forgot to point out my system: abit kt7-raid mobo, athlon 900Mhz/200Mhz, 640MB CAS2 RAM...

basically, I wasn't sure what to expect with my system, in other words, how much of a gain I'd see. Obviously, once I tested it out, I was very pleased with the results (especially for a final cost of $90 after MIR (assuming the MIRs come through of course))

anyway, I just posted my results because:
1) I ran them, and put them in a pretty graph to show my friends, so I figured I might as well share them with all of you too
2) anybody else looking to do a similar upgrade may be interested in these results, just to get a 'ballpark idea' of what the upgrade may do for them.

Cool. I'm awaiting mine, UPS tracking page lists order received but no update since Feb 28. It's replacing an S3 Savage4 Stealth PCI 32mb. Think I'll see a difference? ;)

My Radeon DDR does 55fps at 1024x768, all details max on Athlon 1.2 Ghz while benchmarking RTCW (checkpoint demo)
+ no hickups while plain HOHAA single player at 1024x768????
Strange
I am using unofficial set of drivers from rage3d..... the newest set
U probably work for Nvidia ;-)

wow, adlep, you were getting 55fps on high quality @ 1024x768 on your Radeon 32MB DDR?

what the heck was I doing wrong then? I'm running WinXP Pro, and I was using the latest official drivers from ATI. I know you were using unofficial drivers from rage3d, but would that make such a dramatic difference??? And I can't imagine your 1.2GHz compared to my 900Mhz would have that much to do with it either. hmm, who knows.

and no, I don't work for Nvidia :D (but after getting my hands on their GF3 chip, they are certainly my newest best friends! ;) )

Yeah my Radeon DDR was no joke either. I never ran RTCW on it but with DX8.1 I ran Madden2002 @ 1600x1200.

Those look like TNT1 scores.

sounds like the infinite loop bug.. check this thread out at via arena forums... has a possible fix..

edit: it has something to do with the via chipset not supplying enough power to the AGP port.

Hudster, pm me with your e-mail so we can talk more, I am running Win 98 SE, so maybe that is making a diffrience...???
Anyhow, do not post "reviews" like that. Such numbers do not look credible at all
