I was looking through the control panel at the add/remove programs list and found something called RTC Client API v1.2. I don't ever remember installing it, so is it safe to delete? I found this article on it, but I didn't understand anything in it, except that it stands for real time communications. Can someone help me out and tell me whether its some kinda spyware, or is it OS related and needs to stay?

Not spyware/malware at all. No worries :)

Windows Messenger uses the RTC Api.

Office Communicator (the "pro" version of messenger) as well as Microsoft Live Communications server leverage such things. Now that the industry standard SIP protocol is in widespread use, expect more companies (AOL, MSN, Yahoo) with IM technology to leverage this.
