This is a thank you and follow-up to this message.
First off, a HUGE thanks to everyone who has send comments, suggestions, and advice on how to troubleshoot the problems I was experiencing with my RT314 and W2K setup. I solved the problem last week and apologize for taking so long to post my findings and results. I have had family in town and you know how that can suck up your time.
Anyway, here is what I did for the RT314:
1) I did a firmware update on the RT314 to version 3.24 and reset everything to default.
2) I then set a specified range of IP address for DHCP so that I could have some fixed IP addresses available for the current desktop and another that I am considering. The IPs available via DHCP will handle my personal and work laptops.
3) Gateways and subnets point to the router and the DNS servers I am using are the ones provided by my cable ISP.
Now, the changes I made to W2K are as follows:
1) I removed the TCP/IP stack and all other protocols and services from both PCs, shutdown, and rebooted.
2) I reinstalled the TCP/IP stack, NetBUEI, Client for M$ networks, and file/print sharing.
3) I let the NICs autoconfigure themselves.
4) I set the desktop PC to have a fixed IP address and the laptops to have IPs assigned by DHCP from the router, within a specified range.
5) I also have temporarily removed BlackICE and Sygate, though I would like to use BID for logging purposes until I can figure out how to implement logging on at the router.
Anyway, that is what I did and everything works great now.
Again, I send my thanks out to everyone who took the time to respond and offer suggestions/help. I tried just about everything, but in the end what I outlined above is what paid off.
