I live near Austin, Texas and I have Road Runner services. I installed RT314 and installation was fairly smooth. The only hitch I had after installing everything was that I couldn't access the newsgroup anymore. If I remember correctly, I accessed the newsgroup 30 minutes prior to installation. I had no problems using email, interenet browsing (ie 5.5), mIRC (had to use port forwarding [113]), and MSN messenger. I was too tired to disconnect the RT314 and fully test to see if the RR newsgroup was really down or not. I went straight to bed. Strangely this morning, I could finally access the newsgroup. I wonder if RR newsgorup was really down or not? This took place Monday night around 9 to 10 PM (Sept 10). BTW, I did use an old NIC card and I switched over to a new NIC card during the upgrade process. I wonder if RR servers remember my old MAC address and needed time to authenticate the new spoofed MAC address. If that is true, then why could I access my email account and the internet? Or maybe it was just a coincidence that during my upgrade, RR service was down?
BTW, for Austin RR users who recently purchased RT314, let me give you a hint if you should access the Wizard Setup. Leave SYSTEM NAME blank. Enter austin.rr.com in the DOMAIN NAME. On the following page, leave everything at default setting (ISP Parameters for Internet Access). On the third and final page, I left everything on default excpect for WAN MAC ADDRESS. There, I had to "spoof" by using my original internet connecting computer, which was 192.168.0.2. Then I reconnected the RJ45 jack from my Toshiba modem to the RT314. I think I had to reboot. I am not a network PRO, but this setup worked for me. An experienced network guru might say otherwise.
