RSS-type subscriptions to forums?

Does anyone know if there's any type of syndication service to get notified when certain types of subjects are posted on forums?

I guess if a forum (like ATOT for example) doesn't have an RSS feed, I'm SOL to subscribe to it like I can with blogs...

Or do I not know what I'm talking about 🙂 (most likely)
