TV is a Toshiba 50H82 purchased in May '03. I keep my brightness and contrast at 50% at all times.

What's happening is there is a permanent green...tint...to all images. On all screens that should be black, it's a greenish color. Dark brown colors get washed out to green. We watch Deadwood on Sunday nights and it's almost unbearable because all of the dark atmospheres get washed out to green.

It does this on all imputs - cable TV, Xbox games, DVD's ect. I can't seem to adjust it out in any way.

Any thoughts what is broke/worn out?

Yes. It appears to be a "gun problem."

Maybe just a glitch in the processors. Try unplugging the TV for about 15 minutes. Then, go into the menu and find the "Reset to factory" or "Reset to default settings" option and select it. If somethings "stuck" that should unstick it.

Honestly, in this case, I don't think taht will work, but it's a cheap thing to try before calling it in. 🙁

Damn, just shy of two years old...it's probably no longer under warranty (unless you purchased an extended warranty...)

Have you moved it lately? Sometimes the slightest bump can knock things out of whack.

This is just a plain jane Rear Projection. No DLP nothing fancy.

We had it unplugged for a full day a week ago to have some carpet in the living room replaced so that didn't improve anything 🙁

It did make a move from AZ to IA in November but this is really just a recent thing that I've noticed in the last few weeks.

Luckily I do have a ESP on it...I'm just trying to narrow things down before spending hours upon hours trying to get Best Buy to get somebody out to look at it.

one of the guns is bad, and they are expensive to replace, and supposingly you have to replace all 3, because if you just replace the bad one, the other 2 aging ones are already putting out less light, so you will never get pure white if you only replace one. you might as well buy a one TV.

Alot of big rear projection TV's have "Color Modes" where you can adjust it to "Movie" mode, or "TV" mode or just shift the color temp... It seems like a simple answere, but It would suck to replace a gun or something just to figure out it was a menu setting all along... give it a shot...

Good!!!

Being that you DO have an ESP on it, don't much w/it any further. Play dumb and just call it in. Let BBuy spend the $$$ to have someone come out and take a look at it. That's what you PAID for.

I'm w/you on the ESP-thing. Spending $50 for an ESP on a $100 MP3 player is just stupid. But, paying $150 for an ESP on a $2000 TV is smart business. 🙂

Definitely. Although it was more like $300 on a $1600 TV. 🙁 But still...it's a 4 year ESP and I was really scared about the horror stories I heard about RPTV's. If it really is a gun, the ESP paid off.

I also picked up a $70 ESP on a $700 digicam that crapped out on me after 2 years. Walked away with an upgraded version. Again, ESP paid off.

But yeah, $20 ESP on a $100 item is just dumb.

If your screen turned green, either two of your guns are dying, the red and the blue (not likely), or your green is being overpowered somehow. Usually if theres a green tint it means the green cuts and drives are too high...but it could also have to do with voltage trimpots on the inside.

I'd say get it repaired, but if youre unwilling to try that and would rather get a new tv, than it cant hurt to at least try the service meny and see if that makes a temporary difference.

I paid around $250 for my 4 year Warranty for my $2400 Toshiba...it expired last December, but I never had to use it...the TV was moved twice (from a 4th floor apt to a 3rd floor apt to the current house)...picture is still solid...
