rpm on Mac OS 10.5.5

Now, if only I could get rpm to work. I installed the package from rpm5.com or whatever, and it installs fine, but I get a:

error: cannot open Packages(0) index using db3 - No such file or directory (2)
error: cannot open Packages database in /var/local/lib/rpm

Error whenever I try and install anything (or even rebuild the database). Anyone have any ideas? I'm going to do a lot of Unix work here, but I don't think this [or anything, right?] needs darwinports.

Although I do need gcc 3.4, I think, but I'll worry about that later.

Looks like you need to create an initial RPM database of installed packages, but I have no idea idea how to do that.
