RPM fan monitoring problem

I just installed a Mechatronics 53cfm fan. The fan has been pre-wired to get it's power from your power supply using a standard 4 pin molex connector - BUT - it also has a three pin connector wired in so that it can still report fan speed information back to your motherboard. The problem is that upon installing the fan my bios (Abit KR7A-133R) reads N/A for the fan speed. I checked and the fan is running. Oh, sometimes for a split second bios reads the fan speed, but then reads N/A after that. Is the plug bad? Any other ideas? I really want to monitor the speed because the bios has the option to Shutdown if cpu fan fails, which would come in handy!!! 🙂
Thanks, Kent
