My Apex TV absolutely needs the original remote in order to control the built-in DVD player and my idiot roomate broke it. How? He dropped it from top of his bunked bed onto the floor.

Is there a generic replacement with custom remote profiles that can replace original remotes? how much?

If that wouldn't work, how much for an OEM remote?
