I've been playing Oblivion a lot lately, like everyone else.

Last night I got to thinking about how RPGs are being made. I'm a big fan of fantasy novels like Conan, Fafhrd and the Gray Mouser, etc.

In those books, the heroes are usually after some sort of big treasure.

why is it in rpg games, we spend a lot of time in a dungeon, fighting tons of monster or enemies, hoping to find some awesome treasure, but only come out with some crappy armor or a few hundred gold?

where are the treasure hordes? it doesn't make sense to go through all that just for a couple hundred gold when everything costs several thousand. where are the magic weapons?

where's the sense of an epic adventure and getting rich? i know they do it for balance, but it ruins the immersion.

don't get me wrong, i love Oblivion but i just wish they could do more with the games.
