TF2 is fun, not enough maps though it seems for the amount of time the game has been out. Can only play 2fort for so long.

COD4 is the better one of the two. I don't see how you won't like it.

Also, even though you said you are RPG'ed out, I'm pretty certain Fallout 3 will prove you wrong. It's like they perfected Oblivion in pretty much every possible way (except for the level cap, but that may actually be beneficial). I would give it a try.

not even close

i've only put about 5 hours into the game and end up in the middle in points on my team most times. Just play soldier for a while, read up on some strats, and you'll be fine

i have a HORRIBLE time learning maps though, that's the only thing really holding me back

There are a good number of maps for TF2, not to mention the large number of custom maps that are increasing. 2Fort is one of the worst maps in the entire game.

Best way to learn the maps is to start them up yourself and explore them thoroughly, then try them online. :)

Maybe you're only playing the official maps, but there are a number of good community-created maps that equal or beat the Valve maps in playability and balance.

As far as how long it takes to pick up, not too long. It may take you a while to get really really good at it, but it's fun right away. If you do buy TF2 send me a PM and I'll suggest some good servers to play on where the skill level is high. The best way to get good at the game is to play against good people.

I also agree about STALKER, very absorbing game, at least for me. People call it an FPS RPG, but as someone said, it's really just a FPS with free-roaming and an inventory. There's no level or skill system to worry about.

Although I enjoyed Crysis, this actually wouldn't be one of my recommendations. The game is short and not terribly challenging.

i thought this thread was about finding a fps without rocket-propelled-grenades.

Give Company of Heroes a shot. Really fun RTS and it's in the bargain bin now.

Also, is CoD4 SP/MP account based, meaning do I have to get a new serial or can I buy it used, etc.

Any answers?

it's not account based but you do need a serial key to play online, so if it's been banned or something, you're out of luck.

I just got back into playing TF2.. very fun to play, and easy to pick up if you've played online FPS before.
Medic is the easiest with a little common sense.. and you can use that to follow other players to learn some of the best paths.

If you havent played them:
Max Payne 1 & 2
Serious Sam 1st & 2nd Encounter

Call of Duty 4 (its not the greatest thing since sliced bread, but it IS fun, despite what you may have heard)
Crysis is OK but you can find better stuff for a better price, dont play it unless you have top of the line hardware.
FEAR, the expansion, and the stand-alone expansion are good, especially if you can find them on STEAM for a good price.

L4D was meant to make fun of those old "night of the living dead" movies. it's got typical characters found in em all: the hot chick, the black guy, the tough guy, and the old guy. its more making fun of the stereotypical cheesy living dead movies, you know the ones that are soo bad you can laugh at em. when you're loading its a movie poster. haha.

I would recommend CoD 4.

UT3 is very fun (gameplay wise) and they're releasing a huge patchfix and a huge content pack too...I like UT3 more than Cod4-- more map variety and it's in your face action.

since this thread was risen, might as well update it:

Been on a wow break for 3 weeks now, leaving my main at 76 for a little while.

First I got Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway, been pretty fun.

But then the addiction arrived in the mail: Grand Theft Auto IV. Man, the game was like d-day to install it with all the activations, patches, and extra crap, but once it was running, wow.

Also got CoD 4 but haven't played it much yet.

Even tho i suck at TF2, i still have a blast playing it. I have a hard time memorizing the choke points on a map ect but i just keep playing one map till i sort of get it, then try the next.

It's coop hiding in a zombie game. There are no shocking or scary moments. The zombies are just there because they can build a campy horror movie atmosphere around it. It's more of a comedy if anything.

true true, it's ALL about teamwork in L4D. Just resist the urge to binge on it when you first buy it, it gets into your dreams.
