RPG'ed out, need to switch.

Just went back and finished Oblivion, prior to that won NWN2, going to be finishing Witcher within a week. I also play wow and have put in a good amount of time into it since Lich King came out and the patch prior. I am getting pretty worn out on RPG's and want to go back to FPS's or Action type games for a while.

Last FPS's I played was Quake Wars and UT3. Whats good thats come out since. Would do multiplayer though kinda feeling like some single player campaign action or something.

Oh, and this might sound wussy, but I am not very fond of horror or freaky games like Bioshock, L4D, etc.

Recommendations?

Also wouldn't mind some fun (read: not tedious/overly detailed) RTS, TBS, etc type of games.

There's no shame in leaving your hard core RPGs for some fun in TF2. New content to come, huge community, people are increasingly clever.

Ubering an engineer to go build behind a point.

I own L4d but still play more tf2 than l4d. I should have waited, l4d needs more content.

Already played TF2 for a while when it came out, was very fun. Got tired after about 6 months since I spent *extensive* time playing TFC for years, used to be a clan leader for it.

Mount and Blade is pretty much an action game. A little RPG elements in character development, but open sandbox world with no set quests The fights are basically FPS

Play TF2,L4D or COD4. all 3 games are awesome. but TF2 and COD4 will probaly net you more hours played. as L4D only has 4 scenarios at 5 levels each. while it can take you over an hour to finish each(not estimating expert, havent beaten it at that setting)

I don't watch horror movies. Not only do they not particularly interest me, they're just too unnerving sometimes. Yet I enjoy the hell out of Left4Dead. I wouldn't write it off right away. It's not really all that scary.

That said, if you don't want to play it there are plenty of other fun games out there. COD4 is supposed to be good, but I haven't personally played it. Because of that my recommendation would be TF2.

I had the most fun playing Crysis out of the recent FPS games. I also really liked Call of Juarez. Both are fun in Single player, although Crysis has more open ended gameplay.

The Max Payne series has probably my favorite single player FPS campaigns, if you have never played them.

Same here. It can be a little scary but in a fun way. Awesome awesome fun online.

Also for online, Team Fortress 2.

For single and multiplayer, COD4 is amazing. Also, if you have a high end computer (mainly want a quad core), Grand Theft Auto 4 has an awesome singleplayer story and game.

Oh yeah, have to mention Crysis and Crysis Warhead. I really like the campaigns in those, and the open endness if a lot of fun to try different tactics. The weapons are really fun.

For single player -- the last long really good FPS I played was far cry (not that junk called far cry 2). Half life 2 (with all episodes) is also pretty good and crysis warhead was fun (but very very short).

While far cry story is er kind of yucky the game mechanics are great. You can sneak, snipe, go in with blazing guns - on many maps go in different directions which result in a very different effect (enemies you face). Also hard can be a bit difficult late in the game (the game starts easy and progressively becomes more difficult). The mechanics are not perfect and there are a few annoyance but I found this game most enjoyable - esp if you want to go back and replay specific maps (like BOAT).

For multiplayers there are many options but I think current COD4 and TF2 are the most popular.

L4D isn't freaky.

It's coop hiding in a zombie game. There are no shocking or scary moments. The zombies are just there because they can build a campy horror movie atmosphere around it. It's more of a comedy if anything.

COD4 is the better one of the two. I don't see how you won't like it.

Also, even though you said you are RPG'ed out, I'm pretty certain Fallout 3 will prove you wrong. It's like they perfected Oblivion in pretty much every possible way (except for the level cap, but that may actually be beneficial). I would give it a try.

If your going to play any single player FPS game, make it Crysis. Best SP game I've played in a while. Crysis Warhead was fun but not as good and was too short.

Having never played TF2, is it easy to pick up on, or will I get booted out of every server for feeding?

I will get CoD4 and probably wait and grab L4D when I reinstall steam for HL: Episode 3. Are any of the newer rainbow six games any good like Vegas or Vegas 2? Also curious if Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway was any good, I liked the first one.

Also, is CoD4 SP/MP account based, meaning do I have to get a new serial or can I buy it used, etc.

Pretty much played every major FPS 2006 and prior. Though I did skip BF2142, i heard it wasnt great. I bought Fallout 3 for my brother over the holidays and will play it in a few months when he is done with it.

stalker and fear would be good choices. I am REALLY enjoying stalker and it is basically a FPShooter with an inventory.
