The local news was just on and said that he was crying at the meeting and that they would have a press conference tonight to confirm his decision to go to UNC

I dont doubt it. He's a Tar Heel at heart. He did a good job at KS and hopefully can pull NC back around.

I'm hearing reports of a $1.7 million a year deal. That is disgusting when the school is freezing salaries and slashing budgets.

YEAH!! WTF!!! The news just broke through saying that UNC has raised tuition three times in recent years and wants to raise it AGAIN now. And they're going to pay him $1.7 million?? FUNK THAT!! If I were a student/parent there, I'd be pissed

The faculty has been opposed to hiring Roy all along. Then again, they're the one's affected by the budget problems.

Then again, the state government has been subsidising the operation of the Nose Dome since it was built.

Hard to say no when it's his alma mater; plus, it's the post formerly held by one of the greatest college coaches of all time.

Yeah, they're paying him a lot of money, but if he brings UNC back to its former glory that $1.7 million/year will seem like a bargain.

:(

I was sure he would stay... he's a man of such integrity I couldn't see him going back on his word three years ago. I'd imagine that there are several mitigating factors that made the difference this time around. I hope, for the sake of Roy's conscience and the closure of Kansas fans like myself that he provides an explanation for:

1. Why this decision was different this time around.
2. Truthfully when his decision was made (I think it was days if not weeks ago)
3. Why he dragged it out so long after saying he wouldn't

As tempting as it is to be angry at him, when it comes down to it I wish him the best. He will always be a major part of Kansas basketball and has done so much good for this program.

I just think he owes everyone an explanation. Then, we move on.

Edit: I'm just glad I got to see him coach his last game as a Jayhawk in person... it was a hell of a game too.

Lemme see if I got this right.
Roy Williams gets the AD fired then 2 weeks later skips town for UNC.
Now that's a class act. He could be in the NBA.

not really, if they don't get a roy williams caliber coach they'll struggle even more financially.

Basketball at UNC?

They had to show the alumni they were serious about getting a dean replacement and only roy williams will satisfy.

There is no question that the timing of Al Bohl's firing was terrible. But the honest-to-god truth is that NO ONE in the KU Athletic Dept. liked Al Bohl. The guy's dismissal was a foregone conclusion... our chancellor just took too long to do the deed.

Roy has ailing family members in NC and his wife has been pulling for it all along. He caved in for those reasons--I can't say that I blame him.

My question is who are they going to get to replace Roy Williams? He has been a fixture at KU for so long... Kansas basketball will never quite be the same for me. I still bleed red and blue though... Go HAWKS!

KU had a winning program b4 Roy and will still be afterwards. Roy won a lot of games, but we need a championship. Roy couldn't get it done with many great teams. People act as if Kansas can't get another top 10 head coach. They can, and will still be good for years to come. I'm not nearly as worried as most people. Don't get me wrong, Roy is a great coach, but the future is bright for KU, as well as UNC.

I hope KU tries to get Tom Izzo (if possible).....

Whatever. Last I checked UNC was still funded by tax payers' money as well as students' tuition money. These state-funded schools disgust me for paying this kind of money for a fvcking BB coach, while cutting back on the number of TAs and laying off non BB-coaching employees. Oh well. That's about what I expect from UNC and its gutless operation. Their AD sucks nuts. He proved that he has no spine by letting the kids talk him into firing Dogherty(oh that's right.. he resigned :roll;), and now he's going to throw $1.7 mil to a basketball coach whom no one else was pursuing.
