Roxio Easy CD 5.0 Plat vs Neror 5.5.5.1

I have been using Roxio 5.0 Plat for close to 6 months now since I purchased it, I recently upgraded my CD-W from an HP SCSI 2x (I know) to a Lite-On 24x CDRW. I seem to able to copy data files fine with Roxio, but when I tried to make some music CDs I was able to make 4 coasters all at different speeds. I then tried my Copy of Nero 5.5.5.1 and it worked great, and I was able to make my Cds without problems.

What I was wondering is if anyone has run into this problem and what they did to resolve it. i am running Windows Xp Pro (all updates), Roxio 5.0 Plat version with all XP downloads/updates from Roxio. I did not upgrade the firmware for the Lite-On CDRW as it appears to work normally with everything else. I verified DMA was enabled for the drive. I had no other programs running while burning, the only thing I can think of is I did not run through the Roxio Easy CD Creator test option for my Drives prior to burning.

If anyone has any Ideas i would appreciate them.

Thanks

I think I have the answer for you 😉

I used EZCD Platinum for almost a year with my Panasonic 7856 (8432 CDR)

I just got a Lite-on 16x10x40 which worked for a week then died 🙁

This has been replaced with a 24x10x40? when I took it back to Best Buy for an extra $10.

Well anyway - going back to the original 16x - when I installed it originally the copying process took absolutely ages (about 15mins with 16x vs 9.5mins with 8x) - seemed to be (was!!!) much slower than my old 8x CDR!!!

I ended up reformatting my system - see "My Toy" below - and when I installed the Roxio software a message said that the current CD-R is not supported by the software and that all functions would not be available.

So after many months of being a very happy Roxio user - I'm now learning how to use the supplied Nero 5.5

A full 700MB Audio CD took 4.5mins with the 16x CDR - I've not checked it yet with the 24x 🙂

I'd recommend that you uninstall the Roxio software and then try re-installing again - u might need to uninstall Nero as well just in case that causes a conflict.

I know that I just removed the Roxio software and then installed the Nero software and everything is A-Ok so far 😉

I used EZCD 4.0 for a long time when I had Win2k, but then I upgraded to XP and EZCD 4.0 isn't compatible. I ended up buying a full verison of Nero and I must say I like it much better than Roxio. There have been quite a few threads about this comparison. I'd recommend reading a few. I think you'll find that people consider Nero a better program.

well, I reformatted my HD and reloaded Windows XP. I then downloaded all updates one at a time and reloaded my software. I loaded Nero first then Easy CD Creator, It appeats to be working fine now. Thanks everyone for your help.

If it were not for the need to record analog media (casette tapes, reel tapes and LD records) and convert them to WAV files for making a CDR, then I would use Nero. But since only ECDC's Spin Doctor has that capability (without getting into 3rd party ware), that is what I use. I use Nero on a different machine not connected to analog sources. (Nero flat can't do that!)

The one thing I would not do is put them BOTH on the same computer. There is a strongly worded README in NEro that says not to do that because they use different files that can conflict because they have the same name.

umm,. I will see what happens, I hope Easy CD Creator 5.0 plat and Nero 5.5.5.1 work happily together, if not I guess ill understand why. Thanks for the update corky-g
