Roxio (Adaptec) Easy CD Creator problem

Hi all, I just installed a new 24x/10x/40x CDRW to my system. I had an old 2x CDRW that I kept in and took out my plain jane CDROM. So, I have the 2 CDRW's. The problem is that for some strange reason, Easy CD is only recognizing the 2x CDRW as a recordable drive. It doesn't give me the option of choosing the new drive to burn to. In Tools --> CD Drive Properties, it shows both drives but there's no "set as default" button for 24x drive. Any clue?

BTW, it's Easy CD 5.0 Platinum.

TIA.

What OS are you using?

Go to adaptec's site and get the new ASPI layers, or do a search online for them to get updated. Maybe you have old ones that aren't working properly with your new burner.

If it doesn't work out, uninstall it and try something like Nero which IMO is a better program and would probably do the trick. Not the cheapest option, but if the other doesn't work you may have to.

I'm running Win 98SE.

I'm d/l'ing the update to 5.0 right now, I'll see if that does the trick.

The new burner came with Nero. Why do you feel it's better? With regards to user interface, there are too many windows open everywhere. Eacy CD is much cleaner. Does Nero burn better, more options?

Thanks.

Nero does some things better, but ECDC 5 does things Nero can't do at all in the SoundStream section for music processing (recording and converting analog tapes and records to digital format)

One thing for sure . . . they cannot exist together on the same machine. 🙂

The 5.0 patch to 5.02 might help, but I see something else as wrong. Are these both IDE drives?

If so, try removing the old one in Device Manager and then physically unplug the power connector so it isn't there. Then see if the new one is picked up.

Then you can add the old one back later if it is.

Oh yeah 🙁
I learned that the hard way. Definitely try the patch. I couldn't get my QPS 24x writer to work under Easy CD either. Just stuck with Nero, and haven't had any problems, so bye bye Easy CD.

I have three QPS Que!Fire burners . . . a 12X, a 16X and a 24X. All work perfectly under ECDC5, patched or unpatched. 🙂

The difference may be that mine are all Firewire external.

Excellent suggestion. I'm also in the middle of upgrading my hard drive (busy week 🙂 ) and used Nero to back up my old HD onto CD-Rs. It took 15 CDs and did each in just under 4 minutes without any error. I was impressed. 😎

The update from Roxio didn't work so I'm gonna try unplugging the old one. If that doesn't do it, I'll be fine with Nero.

Thanks. 🙂

Ok, it seems as if Roxio doesn't support my QPS 24x burner. That's OK, Nero will do fine.

corky: all external?? You made of $$ or sumtin' ? 😉

Thanks for the help, guys. The HD and burner are doing fine. Cigars all around.

🙂
