Hi all,

i'm reletively new to all this business but have just started to backup my data, movies, music, pics etc onto DVD.

I have been using Roxio Easy Media Creator... which seems pretty decent - but - it recognises DVD's as having a max capacity of 4.4gig and NOT 4.7gig...

Is this normal behavior or is there sumthing odd going on???

Thanks all

4.7GB is the labeled capacity because they count a Kilobyte as being 1000 bytes, and a Megabyte as 1,000,000, and so on. So a DVD has 4,700,000,000 bytes.

Using the traditional measurements (Kilobyte = 1,024 bytes) etc, the amount is really around 4.38 GB.

So in otther words, the program is right and the labeled capacity on DVDs is misleading.
