Routing through Proxy Server

I want to allow people using laptops that enter our building to access the internet via wireless but force them to route through our proxy server (198.xxx.xxx.xxx:8080). Basically we would run a wide open wireless network using DHCP to assign IPs, but would need to force all users to go through our proxy server. Is there a way to accomplish this using a wireless router? I am open to using any wireless router that can handle this but would prefer to use a Linksys.

I don't really understand why this is so hard to do. You can tell IE to use a proxy server, why can't you tell a router to use a proxy server? I would think this would be pretty easy to do, but I have yet to see how. Anyway any help is appreciated.

Easy enough: just use the proxy as your next hop address.

The proxy then has the *real* gateway for it's next hop.

Set the proxy to reject all traffic not originating from the egress port of the router ( to prevent people from circumventing the proxy).

Depending on the nature of the network feed, you may need an additional device up front for media / protocol conversion (i.e., cable modem, DSL modem, or "real" router for T1/Frame.

Good Luck

Setup your proxy as a transparent bridge. There will be no way around it (except an explicit proxy exception defined on the proxy itself).
