Routing DSL using 3 lan cards UPDATE: Got win98se ICS working!

Can someone please explain to me or point me to some links on how I can share my broadband connection using two ethernet cards in one system with the DSL and on ethernet card in the other? I heard this is possible. And disadvantages in going this rout? I have all the parts, just not sure how to go about it. I'm conducting my own searches. But anyone with prior knowledge will help speed up my quest.

UPDATE: Everything is working fine. Took me a while to figure out though that I had to select Dial-Up adapter instead of my network card that is connect to my DSL modem.

Earthlink DSL counts as dial-up beacuse you have to connect everytime you wish to work online. Also in network properties you can see that a Dial-up adapter exists, and uses this to connect to the internet.

So when setting up ICS (Internet Connection Sharring) amony two computer on a dial-up broadband connection, during setup when asking "what method you will use to connect to the internet" select "dial-up adapter" instead of your network card that is connected to your broadband modem.

Hope this helps.🙂

JackMDS I have a ethernet cable but I'm not sure if it's straight, or crossover.
It was used previously on a hub to computer connection.

I will be now using it from NIC to NIC connection in compliance to the cheap option. Will it work or do I need to get another cable.

Taking it one step at a time.
Ryan

thanks for the info/link btw!

I could explain how to physically check if the cable is Crossover or Straight-Through, but it would easier to just plug the cable into the NIC's and test it.

Pay attention to the NIC lights.

Good luck!

I got a 24th cross-over ethernet cable for free. I exchanged one of my old 24th straight cables, and said to the clerk I bought this one last week and needed the cross-over.😉

Hey, what can I say! I'm broke😀
