We just got our broadband set up (T1 connection) and need a good router for 2 rigs, preferably a wired router. Are those D-link Gaming routers really worth the extra Bank? or what other suggestions would you have??

TIA

don't get the d-link gaming routers. your broadband connection won't ever reach the maximum speeds the router can handle. you probably want to go with a wireless router just for future purposes.

t1 = business connection. definately don't need a "gaming" router. ;)

I know it's usually a Business connection, but we're running it @ home and would like to optimize online game speed.

WRT54G (make sure it uses a <= v4 firmware). then upgrade it with an aftermarket firmware and enable QOS.

This is the assist the OP.

http://www.linksysinfo.org/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=446

The first four digits of the serial number will indicate the packaged hardware version. If unit is outside of the box, the version is indicated on the silver stick on the bottom front of the router.

WRT54G

CDF0 = WRT54G v1.0
CDF1 = WRT54G v1.0
CDF2 = WRT54G v1.1
CDF3 = WRT54G v1.1
CDF5 = WRT54G v2.0
CDF7 = WRT54G v2.2
CDF8 = WRT54G v3.0
CDF9 = WRT54G v3.1
CDFA = WRT54G v4.0
CDFB = WRT54G v5.0 VxWorks based

If you cannot find a v4 or lower (Linux based) you can get the WRT54GL which is a guaranteed v4.
