Routers w/ built-in firewalls for dial-up connections?

Hi, I'm looking to set up an internet connection in my office. The only data transmission I will be doing is medical insurance claim submission (small files, no need for broadband). That said, the line needs to be extremely secure. I already have firewall software installed on the computer that will be doing the transmitting, would getting a router with a built-in firewall be overkill? (The line will be active for 4 hours in the morning and about 4 hours in the afternoon, so it will never be left on for very long.) Thanks for your advice!

router/ firewall will protect you from inbound connections trying to attack you. but a firewall will not stop an unencrypted transmission once you get to the internet. the other end that is recieving your files needs to be encrypted, so people don't grab it and snoop around. this is true for broadband and dialup. it doesn't matter.

Router Firwall is also good for when you PC is shut down it is still active were software is not. Software firewall like the free Zonealarm is good to have on also if you have a hardware firewall to keep applications from going outbound from your PC and gives you a second firwall while your PC is on.

If the computer is turned off, then what's the point of a firewall?
And there are much better software firewalls out there than Zonealarm, but a router is best.

Belive if someone wanted to they could turn on your PC while it was off and work from there, Cant confirm that is true but rember reading it somewere a long time ago. I use BroadBand so my conetion is always live and I like to take all the caution I can aford to. with Dial up I belive you still can and being you can get zonealrm free ( not saying it is the best) but it is free and offers outbound protection I recomend it with a harware firwall

only if you have it set to "wake on modem" in the BIOS for an internal modem, or set to "wake on LAN" for the routers being discussed here.

To the original poster, many SMC Barricade routers have a modem port.
