Router upstream activity light blinks constantly

The lights are on, but nobody's traveling...

I recently switched from Verizon DSL to Charter Cable, and now find that the light for the cable modem port (Motorola SB5120) on the router (Linksys WRT54G) blinks constantly, while the modem activity light remains "silent".

I don't have a noticeable functional or performance issues, but wonder whether there are some settings I have overlooked.
